Synonymous with quality workmanship

4 May , 2022

Sandar Construction is a leading and highly-regarded main contractor specialising in residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, community, educational and conservation projects.

The family-run business has come a long way since it was founded by Jimmie Jackson more than two decades ago. Employing 26 people, Jimmie – who is a carpenter by trade – worked as both a foreman and a contracts manager for a major construction firm for 27 years before going out on his own in 1999. Sharing Jimmie’s passion for all things construction, he was soon joined by his wife Bernie and sons Jonathan and Leigh, who became directors of the company.

Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Sandar Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. From concept to completion, the Sandar team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

The company’s one-stop-shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Cavan contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied customers.

A member of the CIF and CIRI, Sandar Construction also holds a Safe-T-Cert and is both ISO:14001 and ISO:9001 accredited. It boasts a highly-professional and motivated construction team that is comparable to the very best in the country. Highly-skilled and trustworthy, many of the workforce have been with the company from the very start. The Sandar management team and staff are dedicated to working together to achieve the highest standards of quality.

The four key business objectives of Sandar Construction are: Value, Quality, Safety and Environment.

“As a company which prides itself on its reputation, we ensure that the same effort goes into every project, regardless of the size of the job,” Leigh Jackson says.

“Our two biggest sales pitches are our reputation and the fact that we’re a family business. We’re all very active within the company and bring that ‘family feel’ and reassurance to every project. We stand over every job we do and are always accessible to the customer.”

Sandar Construction’s staff are a mix of site management, machine operators and labourers. It sub-contracts the block-laying, steel works, roofing, carpentry, plastering and M&E to the same tried and trusted tradesmen. By employing high-skilled people, collaborating with respected architects, engineers and design teams, and using only the very best building products, the company is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.

The builder has a proven track record across a range of sectors, including residential, fitouts, educational, commercial, retail and leisure.  Current / recent projects include a 15-unit social housing scheme in Ballinagh for Cavan County Council, the new Ballyjamesduff Fire Station for Cavan County Council / Cavan Fire Services, Kilcock Community Centre for Kildare County Council, Lisdarn Lodge in Cavan and Roselawn Health Centre in Blanchardstown for the HSE.

The Kilcock Community Centre is a two-storey multi-purpose community centre comprising sports hall, changing rooms, reception, servery areas and an external civic plaza. Another interest project is in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford where Sandar Construction is engaged in renovating and extending the former Ulster Bank, which is a protected structure, to create the new CO:WORX digital hub centre.

The contractor recently completed works to Lisdarn Lodge, which is a 24-hour community-staffed residence located on the grounds of Cavan General Hospital. Works included the addition of en-suites to each bedroom, a sun room extension with a patio area, full mechanical and electrical upgrades, complete internal refurbishment and upgrades to the parking and roadways. The family business has also recently completed numerous room refurbishments at various locations throughout Cavan General Hospital for the HSE.

“We carried out a lot of temporary essential works in Cavan General Hospital throughout the different Covid lockdowns. Prior to that, we converted an old laundry building into a file store,” Leigh explains.

“Our work for the HSE is by no means confined to Cavan General Hospital. In May, we completed the refurbishment of Roselawn Health Centre in Blanchardstown. As it was a live environment, we worked in one half of the building at a time. And with Covid at large, we had to take extra precautions and ensured nothing was left to chance.

“We have built up a good portfolio across all the sectors. We have carried out a number of conservation projects over the years, with the conversion of the Ulster Bank in Edgeworthstown into a digital hub being the latest. It’s great to see listed and historical buildings being put back into use. This is our second digital hub to be involved in, having completed Cavan Digital Hub in 2019.”

While most of its current projects are located close to home, the company works all over the North-East, Midlands and greater Dublin area. Passionate about construction, Sandar Construction would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as its employees and sub-contractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
