Quality construction you can count on

15 Aug , 2022

Based in Banbridge, Co. Down, DCM Contracts has gone from strength to strength since it was formed in 2016 by friends Ciaron Digney, Cormac Canavan, and Mick McCartan.

Specialising primarily in commercial and educational projects, the company has grown to employ 19 people and up to 30 more on a subcontract basis. Seeing themselves as wise heads on young shoulders, Ciaron, Cormac and Mick offer a team that not only has outstanding technical skills, but also one with the professionalism and management experience expected of a leading construction management company.

The three directors have a broad portfolio individually, ranging from residential, commercial, healthcare and education work, and have combined their experience to form a hands-on, client-focused company. Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients are the hallmarks of DCM Contracts. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age.

From concept to completion, the DCM management and their team of top-class tradesmen are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved. All of their work complies with the highest industry regulations.

Whatever your next project is, DCM’s one-stop-shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Down firm’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects and satisfied customers.

“We pride ourselves on providing the highest standard of professional construction services and believe that it is the rapport between the client and the project team that enables us to deliver the most mutually satisfying project outcomes,” Mick McCartan says.

“Our methodologies take into account our clients’ key project drivers from the outset to ensure that we exceed quality expectations and maximise value.

“It’s our aim to send everyone home safely every day and our people uphold these principles. This has resulted in impeccable Health & Safety records and is something the company works hard on day in and day out.

“Our culture is one of ‘people first’ in all aspects of the business. This begins with our own staff and extends to the way we interact with our clients and other project stakeholders. We build strong relationships which result in more openness and a smoother path to great outcomes for all involved.

He adds: “Our commitment to quality, delivered through our people and their outstanding attitude, is what makes us stand out from the crowd.”

DCM Contracts enjoys an excellent working relationship with subcontractors, suppliers and architects alike. Complementing their own highly-skilled team of bricklayers, joiners, labourers, office manager, foremen and a quantity surveyor are tried and trusted subcontractors who include electricians, plumbers, concrete and groundworks personnel.

The company’s main suppliers are JP Corry Builders Merchants, Murdock Builders Merchants, Chadwick’s and Point Building Supplies (Warrenpoint). Architects include Milligan Reside Larkin, David Maxwell Chartered Architects and Van Dijk Architects.

The commercial and educational sectors are particularly buoyant for DCM Contracts at present. They have completed numerous school extensions in the Louth, Meath and Dublin areas in recent years, while they are currently finishing off a large extension at Creative Sparks training centre in Dundalk.

Commenting on the company’s other recent projects, Mick states: “The commercial side of things is very busy. We’re currently working on an office fitout in Belfast city centre and an extension to the B&M Home Bargains store in Armagh. We’ll shortly be starting work on commercial units in Bangor.

“We’re also working on a number of residential projects. Castle Place, which is a beautiful listed building in Belfast, soon to be nine luxury apartments, and are currently carrying out a new build in Ailesbury Road, Ballsbridge, which is one of Dublin’s most affluent areas. We’re also building two new houses in Co. Down and have completed another in Ravensdale, Co. Louth and a three-house development in Mill Street, Dundalk.

“One of our standout projects was the construction of the new sports hall and renovations to Glenn GAC in Newry. Most of our work is carried out between Belfast and Dublin.”

Ciaron, Cormac and Mick had each been working in the construction industry in Ireland, UK and New Zealand for over 10 years before they came together to form DCM Contracts.

“We’ve known each other since secondary school,” explains Mick, who is a quantity surveyor by profession.

“When I came home from New Zealand in 2014, I built five houses in Banbridge and Ciaron, who is a carpenter, and Cormac, who is a bricklayer, were subbies on that job. We decided to set up the company after that and have since built two more detached houses on the same site.

“We were always good friends. Ciaron and I worked together in Australia in 2005. We go back a long way.”

Mick is excited about what the future holds for the burgeoning Banbridge-based construction firm.

“Our plan for the next five years is to increase our turnover and to branch into the healthcare sector. At the moment, our ‘bread and butter’ is commercial and educational work. We’d like to progress to larger-scale projects and, more importantly, to keep our staff happy and onboard.

“We thought Covid and Brexit would be a problem for us, but thankfully they weren’t. After all the uncertainty of the past couple of years, we’re looking ahead with renewed optimism.”

The management of DCM Contracts would like to take this opportunity to thank their customers, suppliers, staff, sub-contractors and architects for their continued support.
