Painting is our passion

7 Jul , 2021

The Fitzwilliam Painting Company is one of Dublin’s leading painting and decorating specialist. Since its inception in 2005, the company has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality projects on budget, on time and within the parameters of a fully operational Health & Safety Statement.

Fronted by Mervin Phelan and based in Clifton House, Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, The Fitzwilliam Painting Company takes pride in providing a professional painting and decorating service as well as the efficient completion of all your commercial, industrial and domestic painting needs. The contractor’s committed and qualified staff will complete the task to the highest standards without disruption to your daily operations.

The company’s teams are available 24/7 and are carefully chosen not only for their level of craftsmanship, but their reliability, efficiency and ability to work well with clients. The painting and decorating specialist works closely with the best interior designers, builders and architects in the country, ensuring high standards of finishing with exceptional attention to detail.

Hailing from Sutton in north Co. Dublin, Mervin served his time in European shipyards as a yacht finisher in the marine industry before returning home to set up his own business.

“As a yacht finisher, attention to detail is paramount,” he says.

“For almost 10 years I trained and was eventually responsible for a crew specialising in both spray and brush applications of flawless marine coatings to both the interior and exterior of superyachts.”

“When I came home in 2005 and saw a boom happening, I decided to start my own painting and decorating company. I initially worked with a well-known interior designer painting and papering show houses for many of the leading developers at that time, but the demand was so great that I soon made my services available to a wider customer-base.

“The recession then came, but through hard work, we had enough loyal residential and commercial clients to see us through. Thankfully, the economy picked up after that and things were going great before COVID. We’ve stayed busy, however, and have some big orders coming in 2021.

A member of the CIF, The Fitzwilliam Painting Company has worked on projects in the Dublin area on behalf of contractors such as the HJ Martin, BCB Contracting, JJ Rhatigan, O’Connor Carpentry, and Irish Conservatories & Building Services. Past and present clients in the commercial sector range from the Irish Stock Exchange, HSE and Chartered Accountants Ireland to IKEA, MAAS Aviation, IMC, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Kepak and O’Mahony Meats.

“We have very loyal clients who we have built long-lasting relationships with, our approach to each client is that they should be a client for life” Mervin explains.

“We enjoy an excellent working relationship with contractors, landlords and agents. Projects we’ve worked on in the past include St Francis’ Xavier Primary School, Dublin 15, HomeSense in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.

“In 2019/20 we painted over 3000 windows and doors in Dublin 15 for Wyse Property Management. We have also worked on various large scale residential developments for Smith Property Management and RF Property Management.

“Thanks to the loyalty of our customers, regular maintenance painting is a significant part of our business.”

Mervin insists on employing very experienced decorators who are committed to providing a first-class service for all commercial and domestic clients. To this end, he liaises with clients to ensure the end result not only meets expectations but exceeds them. Whether you are looking for commercial painters to work on a single office or a block of apartments, The Fitzwilliam Painting Company can provide all the necessary elements to ensure a smooth and efficient running schedule.

“Our product knowledge and honest advice helps reassure our clients they’ve made the right decision.”

The range of commercial paint services offered include interior decorating, exterior decorating, specialist finishes, paint spraying and wallpaper hanging. The contractor undertakes work for a broad range of commercial clients in a wide range of buildings. These vary from single office units to hotels. The Fitzwilliam team thrive on the variety their work provides, which is a benefit to their clients. Every project is different and requires different planning, design and implementation strategies.

After an initial assessment and discussion with the customer, a schedule of painting and decorating works is drawn up. The company endeavours to adhere to the schedule, arriving at the time agreed, carefully cleaning your room and protecting your floors and furnishings to minimise any dust contamination.

Only when the surfaces are fully prepared will the Fitzwilliam crew start painting or hanging paper using only tried and tested, high quality, leading brands. From the start of your project right through to the end, they will leave your rooms clean and tidy. If they are working at heights, they will have arranged for a MEWP or scaffolding to be available, all our staff are certified MEWP operators and trained for working at heights. External surfaces are prepared by cleaning, scraping, filling, and priming to ensure an excellent bond for the finish coats.

With an established history of working in areas where hygiene is of the utmost importance, including doctor’s surgeries, retirement homes, hospitals, laboratories, food processing plants, and schools,  The Fitzwilliam Painting Company is equipped to treat any hygiene sensitive area with specialist anti-bacterial coatings for floors, walls, tanks and machinery. All of its hygiene finishes, from high gloss to matt, incorporate a built-in mould inhibitor which is non-leaching and will last the life of the coating.

When it comes to the home, the contractor provides a full range of interior and exterior painting and decorating along with wallpaper hanging services. These services are competitively priced and well-planned. The Fitzwilliam Painting Company retains clients and attracts new ones by providing a service which is second to none.

“Like many other professional contractors our biggest obstacle to growth is the lack of available qualified and professional staff. Over the past decade the small number of new apprentices entering the wet trades has been disappointing. According to the CIF trades and apprenticeship survey 2020, there are currently 10 painters serving an apprenticeship on the island of Ireland. As an industry, we along with the governing bodies need to do more to attract candidates seeking a professional trade qualification.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers and suppliers for their continued support, and our staff for their skill, hard work and dedication,” Mervin concludes.
