Established in 2003, Castleisland, County Kerry-based NOC Heating and Plumbing Ltd has earned itself an enviable reputation for high quality work with  a strong focus on customer service. Building Ireland caught up with Managing Director Niall O’Connor who highlighted just how far the company has come in the last 18 years.

NOC Heating and Plumbing Ltd is focused on always striving to be the best with a goal of delivering top quality finish within time frames, budget and in a safe and professional manner with a clear focus on customer service.

“We feel the quality of work speaks for itself on past projects,” says Niall.

The company’s success is based on extensive experience of its highly skilled staff and tradespeople. “We have excellent staff and subcontractors, they all play a key role to the success of the company.”

Their ever-growing team can serve any aspect of the mechanical plumbing market and covers all aspects of mechanical engineering and contracting, from one off housing to large scale commercial works.

“It started off as a one man-show basically, doing mostly  private houses and has now grown to having eight vans on the road and over 20 full time staff, along with numerous loyal subcontractors.”

“From the start, I always wanted to expand. I always had an interest in moving into the commercial side of the business rather than focusing solely on domestic housing. Once we got one job on the commercial side, we got on the ladder for more commercial work and the company grew from there.”

On the commercial front, NOC offers a full installation of mechanical contracts including: air conditioning, ventilation, BMS, plant installation, water service installation, low pressure and hot water systems, gas services, rainwater harvesting, heat pumps, solar energy, soils and waste services and boiler installation.

The company’s range of domestic services includes: complete bathroom renovations, burst pipes emergencies (24/7), installation and repairs to showers and pumps, radiators, oil and water storage tanks, new heating installations and upgrades, gas and oil, underfloor and zone heating, solar panels, solid fuel stores, waste services, heat recovery systems installations and hot and cold-water services.

In addition, they offer maintenance services covering annual plant service and preventive maintenance, maintenance for commercial boilers and maintenance for hotels.

Covering Kerry, Cork and Limerick, NOC Heating and Plumbing Ltd has built up an impressive portfolio of successfully completed projects over the years and a loyal client base, which includes the likes of Vision Contracting, Flynn Management & Contractors, MMD Construction, Griffin Bros to name just a few.

For example, NOC Heating and Plumbing are contracted to carry out the full mechanical services package at Ballincollig Primary Care Centre on behalf of Vision Contracting with works to include heating and LTHW systems, HVAC services, BMS services and medical gas.

Other projects Niall and his team are particularly proud of include Hogs Head Hotel 5 star resort in Waterville County Kerry along with their clubhouse which has been constructed as part of the redesign of the Hog’s Head Golf Club. Also Fexco Research Development and Innovation Centre, and RDI Hub in Killorglin.

NOC also take on the role of PSCS for many jobs a few being Limerick Fire Station heating upgrade, Killarney Community College Heating upgrade and numerous other OPW and school works.

Some of the current projects include two large health projects, both high quality health and social care centres.

“Ballincollig Primary Care Centre and Newcastle West Primary Care Centre, a new school in Kanturk and CIT Sports Arena in Cork, are going very well and we are delighted to take part in theses project and to proudly achieve the requirements of the brief,” says Niall.

“On the domestic side we have a number of housing projects on the go with KPH Construction, Moloney Contracts, Griffin Bros and MMD Construction and Thermohouse.”

`It’s fair to say that things are going well in the current climate?  “We’re busy alright,” Niall answered, “and we have a full workload ahead of us for the rest of this year and a lot next year as well.”

What are the secrets of NOC Heating and Plumbing’s success? “Our big thing is taking pride in our work and bringing in projects on time and on budget. That’s very important to us,” Niall replied.

That approach goes a long way towards explaining how the ever-burgeoning company has managed to attract and retain a loyal client base. Maintaining that will be central to Niall’s ambitions of expanding the business further in the years ahead.

“There are always plans for further expansion. You always have a desire to expand the business but, having said that, if we can keep the staff we have and keep the quality of work that we have done throughout the years we’d be happy. A lot of it is about building on relationships with the builders and clients we have. They have been very loyal to us and if we can gain more business along the way we’ll take it too.”
