Hinch Plant Hire Ltd is renowned as one of Ireland’s leading plant hire operators and suppliers of plant hire machinery and contracting to the construction and civil engineering industry. Building Ireland spoke to the company’s Managing Director Trevor Hinch to find out all about the business.

These past few years may have been difficult ones for the construction industry, but with Ireland’s economy now thought to be in “robust” recovery mode things are looking up for businesses like Hinch Plant Hire in Mountmellick, Co Laois.

Owned and operated by Trevor Hinch, Hinch Plant Hire Ltd has established itself as a leader in plant hire machinery and contracting to the construction and civil engineering industry.

With many years’ experience in the plant hire business, the award-winning company has built up a reputation for excellent plant hire service and professionalism. Operating the most modern plant hire equipment, Hinch Plant Hire Ltd continues to satisfy the needs of its many plant hire clients throughout Ireland.

Hinch Plant Hire Ltd was established in 1968 and operates from a premises just outside the town of Mountmellick, which includes a workshop for plant equipment maintenance and repairs, stores and office facilities.

“We mainly work for the construction industry,” Trevor explained. “From doing all the ground works and site development for Main contractors on a particular construction site to just  offering certain services to a client such as excavation and  disposal of site materials to our waste facilities, demolition, crushing, pipe laying, road works, car parks or hiring in Plant and operators to the client.

“We also work for Quarries  and Gravel pits stripping the over burden, Cleaning silt ponds and extracting  gravel from below water level and Contract crushing.

“Farming and Forestry also keep us busy from Land drainage, road ways and cut and fill operations to improve land.”

They also produce their own Crushed stone, drainage pebble, 804 and SR21 at their Plant outside Tullamore, Co Offaly.

The company’s staff, which include Plant Operators, Truck Drivers, Mechanics, Site Personnel and Administrative support have gained many years of experience in the plant hire and civil contracting business, and have gained the trust of its customers which is evident from the repeat business and long term customer base.

They are operating all their own Equipment with Diggers from 3 ton to 30 ton, 25 and 30 ton Dumptrucks, Dozers and tipper trucks.

“We try to offer a unique service by way of a wide variety of equipment such as different attachments for excavators such as tree sheers, pole grab, grapples, rock breakers, crunchers, tilting buckets and laser controlled guidance on Excavators and Dozers. We’ve Swamp and Long reach Excavators as well as tracked 360 degree dumpers,” said the MD.

With the construction sector now in recovery from a stinging recession which rocked the industry throughout the country, Trevor is looking forward to a steadier construction industry ahead.

“The majority of our work would be based in Leinster,” he outlined. “We recently completed the Topaz motor way service station for Clancy Construction in Ballacolla Laois and are currently working on a few other sites in Laois; one with Martin Reddin Ltd at the O Moore Park grounds, Midlands hospital Tullamore with JJ Rhatigans,  Kildare Village for Kendra Civil,  Dublin on the New Incinerator at Poolbeg and as far away as ESB Money point For Irish Sea Contractors.”

The latest business expansion came two years ago in 2012 when Trevor built a new Service Station in Mountmellick along the N80, which is open 24 hours.

It offers a Hot and Cold Deli, serving from 6am with dining area. With a sizeable parking area, the store has 24 Hour Fuel and Rest Facilities, as well as a DCI Core Site, and supplying motor oils and car wash.

“Branded “Top forecourt and Mace Store” we employ 15 staff there,” said Trevor.

“The success of our business would not be possible without the continued  support of our customers and the hard work of our staff who have been with us for many years.”
