Having survived her own battle with breast cancer, mother of four and test and inspection co-ordinator with Lightning Protection International, Fiona Healy is taking to the skies in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland.
Diagnosed with not one but two forms of breast cancer, one standard and one aggressive form which had spread to her lymph nodes, Fiona Healy decided to face her diagnosis “head on”. Having gone through a gruelling treatment plan including a double mastectomy, followed by chemo and radiation the Athlone native felt it was her opportunity to raise vital funds to support other patients on the same journey by tacking a 13,000ft charity SkyDive.
Having been given the all clear, Fiona comments: “I feel it’s time for me to give a little back, and help another person on their journey. Prior to my diagnoses, I never would have considered a skydive, so this will be a huge challenge for me to undertake. If people can donate as little as €1, it will greatly help the cause and support individuals and families affected by this disease”.
Lightning Protection International are proud to support such a worthwhile cause as part their “Giving back to the Community” initiative. Paudi Reidy, CEO of Lightning Protection International adds “Every family in Ireland has been affected by cancer in some way or another and to have a vital member of team tackle her diagnosis head on and come out the other side and show such resilience throughout her journey has been a lesson for us all, and we are extremely proud of her.”
The vital funds Fiona is raising will help to support pioneering research programmes and promote education and awareness of breast health for women across Ireland.
Fiona’s skydive was due to take place last Sunday the 4th of October 2020, however, due to adverse weather conditions it is now taking place on the 8th of November 2020.
