HealthCARE sector is the ‘main focus’ for Elenfield Contractors Ltd

17 Apr , 2019

Established by Managing Director Tony Brew in 1987, Elenfield Contractors is a motivated and driven company with vast experience in the Healthcare sector. They have particular expertise in refurbishments of acute hospital areas, establishing controls to cause little or no disruption to the service of the hospitals, their patients or staff and bringing projects through from tender stage to completion.

Rathfarnham, Co Dublin-based Elenfield Contractors Ltd reached the milestone of 30 years in business in 2017. The Brew family owned construction company has scaled from modest structural offerings in early years, to one of the most competent healthcare construction companies operating in Dublin today.

Specialising in healthcare projects is the primary focus of the company but is not limited to such. Elenfield has completed an array of successful commercial and residential projects since the company’s inception.

Elenfield’s expertise and knowledge, coupled with care for the client, service and quality of work completed, is consistent in any project they undertake.

They specialise in and carry out the following services across the Healthcare, Commercial and Residential industries: General Building Contracting, Project Management, Facilities Management, Demolition, Groundworks, Joinery, Conservation & Restoration Works, Attendance on Specialised Services, Maintenance & Call Out, Mechanical Installation and Electrical Installation.

Today, Tony Brew is joined in the running of his business by his wife Kate and sons, Shane and Niall. The nature and size of the projects undertaken consistently calls for works to be carried out in and around live hospital environments calling for due care and noise and Aspergillus control measures. With this, their staff are highly skilled and qualified to carry out such works with minimal disruption to the surrounding hospital environment.

“Healthcare accounts for 90% of our business and that has always been the company’s main focus,” Shane Brew informed Building Ireland. “Elenfield started out working in The Mater Hospital 31 years ago and since then we have continued to work in hospitals across Dublin uninterrupted and have acquired extensive experience and knowledge in this line of work, and have developed good working relationships with leading healthcare Architects and design consultants during this time.

“In addition, we have 18 direct employees, many of whom are long-serving employees. We feel that is very important when it comes to working in hospitals as they are well versed in systems and control measures. Most our employees, especially our office staff and site management personnel are extremely well qualified, both educationally and professionally.”

Elenfield proudly maintains an unrivalled reputation for consistently achieving the highest levels of quality in all their projects and examples of this can be found in a variety of acute healthcare facilities in the Dublin area.

For instance, recently, Elenfield completed the refurbishment of the existing labour and delivery units, nursery, and semi-private rooms at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street where they assisted in the design and established the phasing sequence and controls that limited the impact of the works on the hospital.

In line with the majority of the healthcare projects they undertake, this project was completed while maintaining the existing hospital services surrounding the area of works.

Other Healthcare projects currently completed in a variety of acute healthcare facilities in the Dublin area include:

• New Emergency Dept. Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street

“We currently working on the refurbishment and services upgrade of the entire Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit in the Rotunda Hospital,” Shane revealed. “It is quite a large project which has been broken down into phases to keep the hospital live and maintaining the service of the existing department.”

He added: “We pride ourselves on our well established practices when in it comes to working in acute areas, intricate projects and live environments. We also operate a hands on management approach and a well-established chain of command is in place. We feel that is very important because it allows us react quickly to any issues that may arise on the ground. We have a good set-up and co-ordinated team approach, especially when it comes to tying into existing services.”

The current construction climate has been kind to Elenfield and Shane is optimistic about what the future holds for the company.

“We’re currently in a phase of expansion and we’re looking at larger scale projects all the time which is good.
