Brookmont Construction – builders of distinction

17 Jun , 2022

Brookmont Construction Ltd is a well-established building company specialising in home development, energy efficient homes, renovations, extensions and one-off new builds.

Integrity, respect, professionalism and honesty are the ethos of the Dublin-based firm which recently came to national attention when it featured on the hit RTÉ One home renovation series ‘Room to Improve’. In the first programme of the series to air since before the pandemic, Brookmont was the main contractor on a new build designed by presenter and architect Dermot Bannon in the South Dublin suburb of Kilmacud. The new build was carried out on a plot of land beside Marc and Lisa Daly’s old family home.

The couple had specific needs for their dream home for themselves and their three boys, Jake, Liam and Alex. Top of their wish list was a bespoke sensory room for 13-year-old Liam, who was diagnosed with autism when he was two and is on the moderate end of the spectrum. As one has come to expect from Brookmont, the family’s individual needs were not only met, but exceeded, with Lisa describing the design and build as a “total game changer”.

“The feedback was very positive,” enthuses Brookmont Construction founder and managing director James McGlynn.

“The family were very happy with the sensory room in particular. They were also delighted that the project came in under budget, despite the increase in building materials over the past two years.

“It was great to work with professionals like Dermot Bannon and Claire Irwin (quantity surveyor) on a programme which is one the most widely-watched on Irish television.”

Brookmont has earned an enviable reputation in the residential market. Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, sustainability, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Brookmont Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. From concept to completion, James and his team of top-class tradesmen are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved. All of their work complies with the highest industry regulations.

Whether your next project is a refurbishment, extension or new build, Brookmont’s approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Dublin contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects and satisfied customers.

Committed to making your dream home a reality, the company enjoys an excellent working relationship with sub-contractors and suppliers alike.

“As a family business, we know the value of superior quality workmanship. Our sub-contractors are among the best in their fields of work, and all have the appropriate qualifications and experience which is key to delivering on quality work,” says James, who has been involved in the construction industry all of his working life.

“We employ 20 staff directly who are professional, dependable and excellent at what they do. Everything from the groundworks and paving finishes to the blockwork and painting is done in-house. We subcontract the electrical and plumbing, as well as some of the roofing and carpentry, to the same tried and trusted tradesmen,” James explains.

“By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with our architects and using only the very best building products from reputable suppliers, we’re able to deliver the highest quality construction to our clients.”

James is full of praise for office contracts manager Liam Dunphy and general manager / foreman Ray Prendergast, who head up the Brookmont team.

“I can totally rely on Liam and Ray, who is a quantity surveyor by profession. They make sure everything is done by the book and are always willing to go the extra mile for our customers.”

Renovations, extensions, one-off new builds and energy efficient homes are Brookmont’s bread and butter. Renovation projects tend to be a complete overhaul of existing homes, adding all the latest technologies and leaving clients with a turnkey energy efficient new home. Extensions maximise your living area to its full potential, increase natural light, reduce heating costs and add value to your home.

Brookmont also has the expertise and knowledge to complete your new home in any location, from the small side garden to the greenfield site, from the corner site to the end of the terrace site.

The contractor has completed hundreds of projects of various sizes in Dublin and across the Leinster region. It is currently carrying out extensions and renovations to homes in Lucan (which will also feature on ‘Room to Improve’), Sandymount, Ranelagh and Terenure, and a 6,000 sq. ft. new build in Co. Cavan. Most new builds undertaken by Brookmont are a more modest 2,000-3,000 sq. ft.

As the cost of building materials continues to sky-rocket, James reduces the burden on clients by buying in bulk before price increases and storing the materials in his own storage unit.

“If we see a price increase coming, we order in advance and store it in our storage facility. We generally put in bulk orders if storage allows. We also order stock from different providers due to fluctuating prices. The cheapest supplier today might be the dearest tomorrow. We’re not afraid to shop around for the best price and pass on the savings to our customers,” he says.

James’ other business interests include McKelvey’s Bar in his native Ballybofey, Co. Donegal – which is run by his best friend Darragh McSorley – and two Spanish food speciality stores called a ‘A Taste of Spain’, in Camden Street, Dublin 2 and Capel Street, Dublin 1. The one in Camden Street also incorporates a tapas restaurant.

James’ wife Teresa is Spanish and they have four children between the ages of seven and one – James Jnr, George, Lucas and Sofia.
