20 years (and counting) for BS Tiling

17 Sep , 2020

2019 marked 20 years in business for BS Tiling in Naas, Co Kildare so Building Ireland caught up with Managing Director, Brian Stacey to learn all about the business.

Business is booming right now at BS Tiling and the plan for company founder Brian Stacey is to try and keep things that way right through 2020.

Set-up in Brian’s hometown in Naas, the company provides a first class fitting service which ensures its customers a high level of quality to all projects.

BS Tiling works with many leading construction companies throughout the country while also working on smaller projects as well.

Brian himself was good enough to take time from a hectic schedule to fill Building Ireland in on all the details.

“We’re based in 201 Aylmer Park, Naas, Co Kildare and the company is established since 1999,” he explained.

“Right now we have 26 staff working here and basically what we do is supply and fit tiles and have a good deal of suppliers that we deal with.”

BS Tiling offers a full service to its clients from advice on materials and design to installation all to suit their budget.

The tiling contracts that the company carry out are varied and include housing developments, restaurants, hotels, leisure centres, industrial and commercial contracts.

On the domestic side, Brian and his team work with customers on a range of projects from wall and floor tiling in bathrooms, wetrooms, kitchens etc.

As Brian himself explained, much of their work is based around the capital along with his home county.

“We work a lot with clients like Elliots, Sisk, Aspect Design to Finish, Townmore Construction and D|RES Properties and have been on sites all over Dublin and Kildare,” he outlined.

“The Conrad Hotel in Dublin, Citywest, Maldron Hotel, Lucan Hotel, Springfield Hotel and Ben Dunne Gyms are some of the projects we’ve been on in recent times – also a Mercedes Showroom in Dublin too.”

Along with having been back and forth to the UK for its work in the past, BS Tiling has also completed projects in Croke Park and the Curragh Racecourse.

And the work keeps on coming too, with the year ahead looking like following 2019 in suit in being the company’s busiest yet.

Looking back now, it’s a far cry from when Brian first decided to start up his business venture back in ’99 with one man and a van.

“I was always a tiling contractor and took the decision to go out on my own when the time was right,” he said.

“I went to Dublin one day, bought an old Volkswagen Caddy and just started from there. After a year, I had a labourer with me and from there two grew into four and four into eight.”

Business was indeed thriving and before he even knew Brian had a staff of 22 working with him as the industry continued to boom.

Come 2008 and the economic downturn, things took a turn for the worst but, thankfully, BS Tiling managed to survive the worst of it.

“We go through the recession thankfully,” said Brian. “We dropped back down to four staff and the built it back up again.

“The last few years have been very, very good and we’ve any amount of work lined up. 2019 was probably our best year yet here.”

He added: “We cater for everybody here and don’t forget about the smaller jobs either because it’s where we would have first started.”

So what has been the secret to success for Brian and his company over these past 20 years?

According to the man himself, the degree of quality in workmanship goes a long way when it comes to this particular line of work.

“I think our clients choose us first because they know the quality of work and service that we provide,” said the Managing Director.

“Everything is booked in and we start at that time and finish at that time. We hit the deadlines on the Curragh Racecourse and every other project along with it.

“I’d like to think that we have a good name and that are staff is as good as any out there. We’ve 10 lads here working with us over seven years and the experience some of them have is second to none.”

Brian pays particular homage to two of his tilers that have served the company for more than a decade at this stage:

“Jimmy Ashe and Shane Dunne are out two longest serving tilers here and they are top quality tilers but, in saying that, every one of our tilers here are very good.”

As many immersed in the industry know, a good tiler can be quite often hard to come by and it seems BS Tiling have things down to a tee after 20 years in the game.

Looking at the year ahead, Brian is hoping for more of the same and the opportunity to add more clients – big or small – to the list which seems to keep on growing with each passing year.

“We’ll be looking to keep on doing what we are doing and hopefully keep growing as well. We’ve a very busy year ahead and hopefully it’ll just be more of the same,” he concluded.
