Titan Sticking to their principals

7 Jan , 2019

Established in 2010 by friends and work colleagues Thomas O’Sullivan and Anthony O’Neill, Titan Building Contractors has earned a reputation for delivering top quality projects to an ever-increasing customer base.

The Cork based construction firm has stuck by its principals of not over-stretching themselves and this is a stance that has stood them in good stead over the past eight years.

Tom and Anthony spoke to Building Ireland about the company’s ethos and how they managed to get up and running during the middle of the recession.

Ireland was in the midst of an economic crisis when both men decided to merge their many years’ experience in the building trade and since then they have earned the respect of their peers.

“It was a big risk to take, but thankfully it is one that paid off. We had a few contacts starting off and fortunately, we attracted some work and the company just grew from there,” said Tom.

The company will undertake all aspects of residential building projects including new houses, house extensions, renovations and commercial work. The experienced team have a wealth of knowledge in the residential building sector.

“Most of the work when we started was new builds but now we have progressed into large renovations and extensions. These days the majority of our work would be focused on renovations and heritage work of which we do a lot of.

“We work mainly for private clients and have to date done very little Government work but that will all come in time to us.”said Anthony

There are four guys employed directly and then we would use up to 60 sub contractors on a regular basis. These are guys that we know and trust. They understand the quality of work that we want to deliver and everyone works for the same goal.

Tom admitted that there has been an upsurge in work in Cork city over the past couple of years, although it is still nowhere on the scale of Dublin.

“There definitely has been an upsurge in work over the past couple of years, but it is steady rather than a massive influx. The area we mainly focus on now is renovations/ extensions and heritage work and it is a specialised area that there is a continuous flow of work in.”

The experience that both Tom and Anthony brought to the business aligned with the experience that they have gained over the last eight years has certainly helped attract some of the work that they have carried out in the past.

“We’re confident that we can do the work. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t be in business. The aim for us is to deliver a top class service to our customers many of who have come back to us for repeat work.

“We don’t intend to get too big, but we would like to grow at a pace that suits us and we have no intention of over-stretching ourselves.

“We pride ourselves on providing a personal and dedicated service to our clients. We also pride ourselves on seeing projects through, if people are having problems with planning, we don’t give up, we’re very tenacious in that regard. Our services are underpinned by years of experience and an extensive knowledge base. We’ve been involved in a lot of projects over the years which we are very proud of.”

Anthony added that without doubt the best form of advertisement for them is good old fashioned ‘word of mouth’.

“There’s no doubt about it, if you have a customer that is happy with your work and they pass on your name to someone else, nothing beats that when it comes to advertising.”

Titan Building Contractors also can offer a one-stop shop for customers who may not know exactly what they want and their advice is invaluable given the experience that they have. Its great to meet a client at the start of their journey and be able to gather the design team together for them and offer the complete design and build package. Tom belives this is a great way of keeping clients expectations and budgets in check

Another area that they place a huge emphasis on is health and safety where they have a H&S consultant working for them to ensure that all the work is carried out in a safe manner and environment to ensure the safety of not only the employees, but to anyone that may be on site.

“H&S is something that we have always focused on. It’s as easy do things right as it is do them wrong. Thankfully, we have had no issues in health and safety. That is something that we will strive to continue.”

Titan’s ability to turn their hands to any type of building work has helped them win contracts over the year, while Tom stated that the size of the job didn’t matter to them.

“As the saying goes, no job is too big or small for us. Through the network of sub-contractors that we use, we can accommodate any type of work and have the confidence to hand over a project that the customer will be highly pleased with.”
