The Roofing Specialist

18 Apr , 2019

John Fetherston Asphalt Roofing Specialists was established in 1961 in the Cabra area of Dublin and is headquartered at Western Parkway Business Park in the Ballymount area of Dublin.

From humble beginnings, this fourth-generation company has grown to be one of the leading and most reputable specialist roofing contractors in the country. They facilitate asphalt roofing within the domestic, commercial and public sectors.

“My father and his two brothers and their father before them were roofing contractors,” Managing Director John Fetherston explained. “I went out on my own 40 years ago at age of 18. My brother Paul is one of 12 employees that currently works with us while my son, John junior, is the fourth generation to carry on the family tradition.”

The family-run operation is one of only a hand full of certified contractors specialising in asphalt and torch-on felt in the country. The company carries full public liability insurance and tax clearance certificates.

They are approved contractors for all the professional materials that that they use and these include Permaphalt, Paralon, Hot-Melt, IKO Systems and Liquid Systems, all of which have high standing, longevity and are tried and trusted in their field.

Depending on what the requirements are, Permaphalt is available in two systems. Permaphalt is specially formulated mastic asphalt roofing that uses advanced polymer technology to give the ideal combination of long term durability, increased fatigue resistance, improved temperature stability and ease of installation.

Permaphalt is the result of extensive research and development, and the careful selection of polymers to provide improved performance in all flat roof specifications. It can be applied to form a continuous waterproof covering over flat, sloped or curved surfaces. It can be worked around pipes, roof lights and other projections to provide a completely seam free membrane.

Also, it is the only polymer modified asphalt to gain LPCB approval and is suitable for insulated warm roofs, un-insulated cold roofs and inverted/green roof configurations.

From the perspective of a professional roofing contractor, Paralon is a very adaptable and adjustable material to work with and can be used in many different types of waterproofing applications.

John Fetherston Roofing Specialists have been using the Paralon (Italian) waterproof membrane system for many years and have never had any problems with the product. The product’s reputation shows that on inspection, even after several decades, roofs that have had this product applied to them are still in very good condition and continue to give good water proof sealing.

Over the years Paralon have spent much time and effort with their innovation and development of the product and as a result are very knowledgeable about it. The suitability of the material covers virtually all types of roof design. From large scale commercial structures which would be ideal for warm and cold roof construction to small domestic roof extensions. This is because the material comes in many variations and all for individual uses and situations.

In John Fetherston’s opinion, it is one of the best modified roofing membrane products on the market for the domestic and commercial sectors. When installed by specialists with an attention to detail it should give excellent waterproofing for a minimum of thirty years.

IKO Permateo Hot Melt Waterproofing Systems consist of a tough and very flexible monolithic waterproofing membrane manufactured from a special blend of bitumen, synthetic rubbers, polymers and other additives, which when combined with a reinforcing fabric/grid and protection sheet, is ideal for use in protected roofs, plaza decks and green roof installations.

Designed for concrete substrates, Waterproofing Membranes provides the optimum waterproofing solution, where large roof areas can be covered very quickly permitting the progression of other trades internally.

An unparalleled choice of flat roof waterproofing systems is one of the reasons why IKO is the preferred partner for so many specifiers, contractors, building managers and local authorities across the Ireland and beyond.

Their extensive product portfolio is a result of significant investment in flat roofing Research & Development on a global scale. Unmatched in the industry, the IKO flat roofing range encompasses both traditional roofing systems and innovative solutions including green roofs and photovoltaics. It is this breadth and diversity which enables us to match the perfect flat roofing product to every project, whether it is new build or refurbishment, one roof or many.

Meanwhile over 30 years of proven experience in the field around the world and a history of meeting consumer needs through continual research and development, Enka-Engineered products are one of the leading international roofing product producers for high value reliability and performance.
