The Professional touch from Phoenix Electrical Services

11 Jul , 2017

There are many companies operating in the electrical services industry, but few have the experience of the firm that we profile in this month’s edition of Building Ireland.

Phoenix Electrical Services is a Dublin based company that was established in 1983 by Alan MacLoughlin. Advertised as a one-stop location for all your industrial, commercial and domestic electrical servicing and contracting requirements, this business has seen many changes in the industry over the years.

Not only have industries changed but Ireland as a country has changed also and during that period, we have come through three recessions.

Despite this, Phoenix Electrical Services have continued to supply an excellent service to an ever-increasing customer base, with repeat custom a true testament of their workmanship.

“We pride ourselves on quality workmanship and an excellent service. One thing that has stood to us over the years is that no job is too big or small for us, we have never forgotten our roots and that is very important to us,” said Alan who still dons his toolbar when needed.

Alan was recognised for his commitment to providing top class electrical services by winning the top Award for Electrical Trade Professional of the Year for 2008 by Onlinetradesmen.com.

In 2011, The Department of Electrical Services Engineering had two competitors taking part in Cork – Barry Kenehan in Industrial Control and Andrew Mac Loughlin in Electrical Installations and both performed brilliantly. Andrew Mac Loughlin, though not an overall winner, was highly commended by the judging panel, particularly for the programming element of his competition.

“We would be a nationwide company working on both individual projects, and large maintenance contracts with nationwide retailers and corporate branch networks.

“I do feel that one thing that stuck to us was that fact that we never got too big and I think we’re stronger as a company because of that. There is 14 employed here and all are highly skilled at what they do.

“A lot of the lads would be here a good few years, some over 20 years and that continuity makes us stronger in my opinion. Our clients are familiar with the employees and once that is there, they can work well together and get the job done even more efficiently.”

Commercial Director Paul Bradley has 32 years in the electrical contracting business and has worked for a number of large electrical contractors in a senior management role. He has also run his own contracting business for 16 years.

Phoenix Electrical Services ability to work directly with the client enables them to meet the clients’ requirements for those seeking installation, maintenance and emergency service solutions.

The aim of the company is to provide experienced knowledge and superior electrical solutions, which foster long-term relationships with their clients.

Offering a relatively new service called Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) has allowed Phoenix Electrical Services to extend their portfolio.

“The purpose of Portable Appliance testing (PAT) is to ensure that the clients’ business is in compliance with statutory requirements on health and safety in the workplace as directed by the HSA. All electrical equipment that the client uses must be kept in a well-maintained state.”

Examples of portable electrical appliance include office machinery (PC, laptop, printer, copier, fax machine), kettles, heaters, extension leads and generally anything else that would have a power lead attached to it.

“Our fully qualified PAT Testing technicians are qualified electricians with years of experience. We will both inspect and test the customers’ appliances, as well as looking for potential future problems such as damaged cables, ill-fitting or damaged plug covers, makeshift repairs that might have been done by others, loose parts or screws, and signs of wear or overheating.”

Energy efficacy is the buzz word within the industry at present, with customers under pressure to not only reduce their utility & maintenance costs but also their corporate responsibility to reduce their carbon foot print. We offer a full turn key package to customers who wish to avail of this service. In some cases, we can provide full or partial funding to reduce the capital spend on such projects.

The company’s client list includes many blue-chip companies operating in such sectors as building contractors, shop fitters, architects, retail outlets, schools, churches, maintenance and residential.

“We have a wealth of experience in providing electrical services solutions to all areas of the industrial sector, including: Industrial Control Systems, Additional Socket Points, Additional Lighting Points, Telephone Points, Computer Networking, Fire Alarm Systems, Security Lighting, Intercom Systems, Access Systems, 3 Phase Outlets.

“In the commercial sector, we understand that in many instances electrical installation and maintenance work may need to be performed during normal business operating hours. Our staff wear a professional uniform and are prepared to provide a timely, courteous and efficient service with minimum disruption to your operations.

“When it comes to a person’s home, we offer a full range of residential services for your safety and peace of mind, these include: Fuse Board Upgrade, Electric Showers, Additional Lighting Points, Additional Sockets, Immersions, Television Points, Telephone Points, Fire Alarms/Mains Smoke Detectors, Security Lighting, Garden Lighting, Storage Heating, Under Floor Electrical Comfort Heating, Intercom Systems and Specialists in House Rewiring.” We also offer smart home integration systems, as there is an ever-increasing demand for this within the residential market.
