There are many electrical contractors throughout Ireland, but few have the expertise and experience that O’Neill Electrics Ltd have at their disposal.

The company was established in 1985 by Kevin O’Neill, the current Managing Director.  With over thirty years’ experience in the electrical industry the company has grew from strength to strength over the years and for this month’s edition of Building Ireland we profile the Tyrone Headquartered company and speak to company director Shane O’Neill about the success of the business.

The company offer their services and have carried out projects both north and south of the border, while in recent years they have opened a U.K office.

“We are based between Omagh and Enniskillen, which ensures we have easy access to work in both the north and south of Ireland.  A few years ago, we have moved into England for various construction sites and planned maintenance contracts. These are managed through our head office and sub offices,” said Shane.

O’Neill Electrics have always offered the personal touch that a family run business can offer and customers can be assured that attention to their specific requirements are guaranteed, as he works closely with his operatives on site.

“We have qualified and competent electricians, trained in a variety of disciplines to complete a wide range of projects including domestic, industrial and commercial installations, along with an experienced maintenance team.”

As stated, O’Neill Electrics Ltd can offer their services in a number of areas, while they are equally at ease on a contract management or sub-contractual basis and in the former role the firm has a wide experience of assuming overall responsibility for the co-ordination of all associated services.

Over the years, Kevin and his staff built up a reputation for providing a reliable, efficient and competitively priced service to an ever increasing customer base. Repeat Business and long standing working relationships.

“We have been relatively fortunate in recent years that we have been able to steadily grow the business without too much risk attached, our staff maintain good working relationships with the companies we are working with and it makes all the difference.”

Working in the commercial, residential, industrial, hotel, education, health and leisure sectors has seen the company involved in many projects over the years.

Some of their more recent ones have included O’Growney National School, Athboy, Co Meath, St Josephs Secondary School, Tulla and St Marys College, Dundalk, the projects consisted of the complete new electrical installation, while more recently the company have been awarded a 4-year Cyclical Electrical Inspections & Remediation’s Contract by Curo Housing Association. O’Neill Electrics Ltd will be responsible for the electrical testing and associated remedial works to Curo’s 13000 housing stock.

In recent years the company has achieved certification in both Quality and Safety management systems and are determined to improve on these systems on an ongoing basis in order to ensure the best end product for their clients whilst maintaining a safe working environment for their staff.

Health & Safety, environmental and quality are areas where the company strive to meet every requirement necessary and this is achieved through the implementation and certification of our Integrated Management System incorporating our ISO 18001 (Health & Safety), ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 9001 (Quality) systems. We are registered Electrical Contractor with both NICEIC (Northern Ireland & UK) and RECI (Republic of Ireland).

“All the employees are trained in all relevant Health and Safety requirements. We have our ISO18001 Health & Safety Management System in place that is 3rd party accredited by URS.”

The environmental aspect sees that the management is committed to continuous improvements in environmental performance and the prevention of pollution.”

Another key area that the company focuses on is the maintenance service that they provide their customers and this is another area where their experience excels.

“We provide a maintenance service to a wide range of clients. These include Housing Associations, Councils, Schools, Hotels and Commercial premises. Maintenance calls normally be categorised into Response, Routine or Planned.”

As part of the maintenance service, the team offer 24hour call outs as well as four day, monthly and annual call outs planned maintenance where Emergency Lighting & Fire Alarm Testing and repairs are carried out.

Shane concluded that regardless of the size of the project or the stature of the customer, everyone is treated with the same respect and attention.

“Irrespective of the scale or value of the contract every customer is treated with the same respect. The company has been built on that core principle and it is something that we will continue to follow for many years to come. We are pleased with the direction of the business and we are currently involved in a number of projects, while continuously tendering for others.”
