The future of floor insulation

29 Apr , 2022

Based in Moneygall, Co. Offaly and operating nationwide, Superior Floor Screed provides quality floor screed services for residential dwelling and commercial buildings of all sizes.

Established in 2015 by Enda Gleeson, the company’s professional tradesmen have many years of combined experience in the building trade and have laid countless floors in that time. While the technology may have changed, the quality and workmanship continue to be of the highest standard with a top-class and value-for-money service always guaranteed.

Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. The poured floor insulation and liquid screed solutions specialist’s ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied customers.

“Our aim is to provide the best service possible, while working economically to keep costs on target and to complete the work on time,” Enda says.

“We’ve poured floors across all the sectors, from private dwellings to schools, universities and hospitals. No job is too big or too small. Our professionalism and knowledge of the trade gives us a competitive edge.”

Superior Floor Screed employs eight skilled installers who are divided into three teams, two of which are dedicated to liquid screed and the other to poured floor insulation. A static pump is used for pouring liquid screed, while a volumetric concrete mobile mixer is used for residential poured floor insulation.

The company has gone from strength to strength since it became a certified supplier / installer of Warmscreed, which is a specially engineered thermal lightweight screed designed to drastically improve thermal performance of floors.

This product is a high-quality factory produced EPS bead to BS EN 13163 standard. Warmscreed has a multitude of benefits over conventional PIR boards. It’s quicker to lay, involves less labour, there is no waste material and it eliminates thermal bridging and cold joints. However, the main benefit is a level surface to apply the all-important top coat.

Developed in accordance with both BS EN 16025-1 and BS EN 13813, Warmscreed provides the ideal, perfectly levelled surface for UFH. The system also complements a huge range of top coatings in the market, enabling screeders to achieve a quality finish every time. Warmscreed completely encapsulates all service conduit which results in a vastly improved insulative system that reduces fuel costs. U-values are calculated in accordance with BS EN ISO 6946 : 2007.

“It’s the future of floor insulation,” Enda asserts.

“Our innovative poured floor insulation or thermal bead screed has been a huge success and is fast becoming the number one method of floor insulation. Our customers are highly impressed with the speed and ease of our poured floor install. This alternative to traditional board insulation saves them time and money, with no waste boards to dispose of.

“It ticks all the boxes when it comes to thermal efficiency, speed of installation, reduced material wastage, ease of fitting, rapid curing and weight.”

The liquid screed end of the business is equally busy. With three teams on the road, Superior Floor Screed is always available to service its nationwide client-base. The company enjoys an excellent working relationship with some of the country’s best-known main contractors, including Clancy Construction, John Paul Construction and JJ Rhatigan.

“We’ve worked on a number of healthcare projects for Clancy Construction in Tallaght University Hospital, St James’ Hospital, University Hospital Limerick, Nenagh General Hospital and Croom Orthopaedic Hospital to name but a few,” the affable managing director explains.

“We also worked for John Paul Construction on the Regeneron pharmaceutical plant in Limerick and on five apartment blocks near Dublin Airport. We’ve worked for JJ Rhatigan on residential and commercial projects in Galway and Dublin as well.”

As an essential service, the South Offaly company remained operational during the different COVID-19 lockdowns of the past 18 months and boasts an impressive portfolio of completed projects.

“We’ll go wherever the work is. Distance isn’t a problem. One of the advantages of being based in the midlands is that no part of the country is too far away.”

Enda is also a partner with his brother Neil in Collison & Gleeson Builders Ltd. Delivering quality and excellence every time, the family-run business has been trading for over 50 years. The company places a strong emphasis on performance, quality, teamwork and a ‘hands-on’ management approach to ensure client satisfaction.

“We’re second-generation builders,” Enda reveals.

“Neil runs the building end and I look after the flood screed business. The two companies complement each other in many ways. The aim of both is to provide an unrivalled, top quality and value-for-money service in a professional manner.”

Enda concludes by thanking his customers and suppliers for their continued support, and his staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
