Celebrating 15 years in business, Hickey Fabrication Services Ltd is a leading manufacturer specialising in bespoke design, manufacture and installation of stainless steel and mild steel products. The Waterford-based firm recently opened a new office in London to facilitate its expanding services to the UK marketplace.

Hickey Fabrication Services (HFS) has come a long way since its establishment by Ger Hickey in 2001. Today, the family-run business employs 30 staff directly and numerous others on a sub-contract basis, and operates from a purpose-built manufacturing plant in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford with over 15,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art workshop and fabrication space, as well as 62,000 sq. ft. of laydown area. HFS’s location between the two major manufacturing centres of Cork and Waterford, and just 1km from the N25, means that it is well-placed to serve clients in Munster, the South-East and the rest of Ireland.

HFS provides a complete metal fabrication service from conception to completion. This includes working with clients to develop concepts, then taking the ideas to the design stage and, finally, fabrication and installation. A team of fully qualified and highly experienced fabricators, welders, fitters, stainless steel polishers and site installation crews service residential and commercial clients throughout Ireland, ensuring every project is completed to an exceptionally high standard in-house and on site.

The company works in stainless and mild steels, but also has capabilities and experience in exotic steel fields such as hastalloy, titanium and inconnel, which means it can take care of even the most complex concepts or demanding customer’s needs. HFS provides the following services: Design Metal Fabrication; Project Management; Site Surveying; Equipment Installation; Steel Stairs Ireland; Mezzanine & Floating Floors; Workstations; Stainless Steel Engineering; Machine Building; Plant Maintenance Fitters & Electricians; Galvanised Canopies / Shelters; Street Furniture – Bollards & Rails; Clean Room Furniture; Machining Facilities.

Whatever project it undertakes, whether it’s constructing pressure vessels for the chemical industry, stainless steel tables for pharmaceutical use or stylish staircases and balustrades for architects or private clients, HFS’s commitment to quality is the same. Every stage of fabrication is checked and double-checked against customer’s specification. The company always makes sure it delivers on its promise of high quality products and 100 per cent happy customers.

HFS can also provide an independent third party inspection service and supply skilled engineers and fitters to undertake plant maintenance for manufacturing sites. The firm has successfully achieved compliance with the requirements of CE Marking EN1090-1 for Structural Steel (CE Marking of structural steelwork became a legal requirement in Ireland in July 2014).

This achievement came after a programme of investment to produce an accredited Factory Production Control System which covers stock management, skilled personnel, fabrication equipment and workshop consumables with continuous surveillance, inspection and testing of welds and welding personnel. HFS can provide clients with a Factory Production Control Certificate, a Welding Certificate and a Declaration of Performance. Clients or main contractors who engage a steelwork contractor should carry out due diligence and should only appoint a steelwork contractor with an Execution Class equal to that for the project.

The company’s metal fabrication design teams comprising of project engineers, design engineers and CAD technicians have a combined experience of 130 years in the pharmaceutical, food, manufacturing and construction industries, and can offer clients a wide range of services from design proposal development and project costing through to prototype / sample stage and on to product delivery and installation. HFS provides a dedicated engineer whose field of expertise is best suited to the project who in turn has the full support of the design team as required.

HFS can offer a full project management package comprising design, quantity surveying, site survey, civil works, mechanical installation, electrical installation, programming and site supervision of specialist sub-contractors, commissioning and training or any combination of the above services. In addition, the design team can carry out site surveys of existing installations and then design HFS products / equipment to fit into the existing layout or advise on any modifications which may be required to the existing layout in order to maximise the effectiveness of the project. Site surveys can be undertaken prior to fabricating from client’s drawings to ensure all the design team are working from as built measurements.

In addition, HFS offers a complete package for equipment installation / relocation, including site survey, offloading and positioning, mechanical and electrical hook-up to existing services or installing new services as required.
