Summit Scaffolding takes you to the top

13 Apr , 2018

Summit Scaffolding Ltd is a young, ambitious and innovative scaffolding company which has enjoyed phenomenal growth in its first year in business. It recently won the ‘Start-up Business of the Year’ award at the Wexford Business Awards.

While Summit Scaffolding has only been trading since May of last year, its directors Keith and David Dwyer have over 30 years’ combined experience in delivering scaffolding services across all industry sectors. Hailing from Fethard-on-Sea, the brothers have built up an impressive client-base which includes some of the country’s leading main building contractors, including BAM, GEM Construction, John Paul Construction, JJ Rhatigan & Co, Kercon Construction, Elite Construction, ABM, Magna Construction, Clancy Construction, McGarrell Reilly Group, BHA Construction and Sammon Builders. They believe in a working partnership with their clients and provide a top-class service, regardless of the project size.

Operating from Clonard Retail Park in Wexford, Summit Scaffolding has specialised materials for the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries as well as clean room environments. Most than anything, the company prides itself on its people. It currently employs a team of 50 scaffolders who undergo continuous training to keep them at the forefront of delivering unrivalled scaffolding solutions.

“Our staff are our greatest asset,” Keith Dwyer says matter-of-factly.

“We like to think that they are the best in the business. We continually invest in our employees’ training to ensure that they reach and adhere to the highest safety standards at all times. Their expertise and knowledge is backed up by the experience David and I bring to the table. I’ve 18 years’ experience in the trade and David has 13. We take our responsibility as an employer very seriously and realise that a sizeable number of people and their families across the country have put their trust in us as a quality and long-term employer.

“We pride ourselves on our ‘hands on’ approach and knowledge in all aspects of scaffolding. We know all the highs and lows of the trade. Having started at the bottom, we are now aiming for the top. We are real scaffolders who employ scaffolders. We are determined to rank as one of the top scaffolding companies in the country. We always aspire to give the best service while using the highest grade of materials, thus ensuring our clients have peace of mind while completing their projects safely, on time and within budget.”

He adds: “We provide scaffolding services to all sectors – commercial, industrial, residential, manufacturing and pharmaceutical. Our services include erect, maintain, hire and sales. No job is too big or too small.”

Summit Scaffolding uses the most up-to-date scaffolding systems, namely Ring Lock (Metrix) and Cup Lock. Ring Lock (Metrix) scaffolding is a modular scaffolding system for access scaffolding, scaffold tower, roof scaffolding, building scaffolding and slab formwork support. Cup Lock is a multi-purpose system which is suitable for all projects.

“We recently purchased a considerable quantity of galvanised Cup Lock and tube and fitting scaffolding, and deal with the trade in the UK for a lot of materials,” Keith explains.

“We view this as an investment in our future. Having taken the bold decision to purchase high-quality galvanised scaffolding, we know that our kit will stand the test of time and will enhance any site that we work on and provide our clients with a high level of professionalism and safety.”

The Co. Wexford-based contractor has been engaged with main building contractors on several projects over the past 12 months. Among them are two separate student accommodation developments in the Blackpitts and Church Street areas of Dublin for BAM and GEM respectively, a large residential development in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath for GEM, a new secondary school in Maynooth, Co. Kildare for Sammon Builders, a new primary care unit in Waterford for JJ Rhatigan, an extension at Wyeth Nutrition in Askeaton, Co. Limerick for John Paul Construction and the refurbishment of the Wexford and Waterford Courthouses for BAM.

Summit Scaffolding is a member of NASAC (National Association of Scaffolding and Access Contractors) which is currently re-writing a new Code of Practice for the scaffolding industry. This sets out to implement new and improved scaffolding procedures as well as being part of a new project to create a scaffold apprenticeship in conjunction with all the governing bodies, including the CIF, Solas, Laois-Offaly ETB and HSA.

The Dwyer brothers were delighted to receive the ‘Start-up Business of the Year’ award at the Wexford Business Awards last May on behalf of their burgeoning company.

“It’s a great boost for both team spirit and morale for all Summit Scaffolding employees to be able to say ‘I am employed by an award-winning Wexford company’. We appreciate the huge amount of work that Wexford Chamber does in organising and hosting such a prestigious event and it was certainly an honour and an experience to meet, dine and speak with so many other local Wexford companies and business people,” Keith said at the time.

After barely a year in business, Summit Scaffolding is already scaling the heights!
