Sisk and CIF Invite Irish Families to Ireland Skills Live Event

14 Mar , 2019

CIF and John Sisk & Son welcome parents and second level students to the Ireland Skills Live Family Day, at the RDS Simmonscourt on Saturday 23rd March, where they will both be highlighting apprenticeship opportunities for second level students.

(Thursday March 21 and Friday March 22 are sellouts.)

Ireland Skills Live will host for the first time under one roof, RDS Simmonscourt, 25 national skills competitions, with many of the winners going on to represent Ireland in the World Skills Championships in Kazan, Russia. This inaugural three-day event is bringing industries together including; construction, creative arts, aviation, engineering and software together with live competitions, ‘try a skill’ areas, heroes’ stages and a large careers and education zone.

David Tracey, Joinery Works / Training Centre Manager, John Sisk & Son said: “Sisk has built a unique reputation of training apprentices not just for Sisk, but for the industry at large. We provide a unique carpentry and joinery apprenticeship that offers apprentices the opportunity to ‘Learn and Earn’ while developing real life skills with many going on to become our next generation of site managers. For many of our apprentices they take full advantage of this FETAC Level 6 qualification, that is recognised around the world, with a vast amount also opting to travel upon completion of their time with us.”

Dermot Carey of CIF said: “Irish parents might not realise that their children’s options are being limited by a focus on third level alone in most secondary schools. Construction is growing at about 12% per year and we’re hiring 1500 additional workers per month. You can learn a craft that is a global passport to work anywhere in the world.  So many of our industry leaders who are now running international companies building around the world started out as apprentices.  That’s why we want parents and families to see the amazing work of our apprentices.”

Ireland Skills Live runs in RDS Simmonscourt from March 21-23, 10am to 5pm, admission is free to the public. Thursday and Friday are now sold out.
Saturday 23rd March is Family Day with free admission.
