9 Oct , 2020

Shortlisted in no fewer than three categories at the 2019 Irish Building & Design Awards, ShareRidge is a dynamic, modern and innovative civil engineering solutions specialist which has grown rapidly into one of Ireland’s most highly regarded water conservation providers. Building Ireland touched base with Bid Administrator Cróna Esler to find out more.

Ten members of the excellent ShareRidge team enjoyed a great night out in the capital at the 2019 Building & Design Awards in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road on Friday, November 29th, where the County Mayo headquartered company was shortlisted in three categories.

The rapidly-growing, industry-leading multi-disciplined utilities and civil engineering contractor was selected as a finalist for the Engineering Practice of the Year, Engineering Project of the Year and Public Building Project of the Year accolades – fitting recognition of the company’s outstanding performance over what was another landmark calendar year for ShareRidge.

Organised annually by CMG, the Irish Building & Design Awards recognise excellence in the building and design sectors, acknowledging the finest and most innovative projects, firms and practices in Ireland. Being shortlisted for three awards in such a prestigious competition is a huge honour for the team at ShareRidge –a worthy endorsement of their work on civil engineering projects all across Ireland and an acknowledgement of the skills, expertise and dedication of their entire 100-strong team.

Bid Administrator Cróna Esler, who prepared the submissions for the awards, admits it was a great source of pride to ShareRidge to be rubbing shoulders with the crème de la crème of Irish construction at the gala awards night in Dublin 4: “We were delighted to see ShareRidge nominated for three awards. There was huge excitement within the company. To be shortlisted for such prestigious awards is a huge achievement in itself.

It’s a huge honour for us and, of course, it was great to be representing Mayo in Dublin!”

Engineering Practice of the Year is one of the most sought-after prizes of all and Cróna admits it was especially satisfying to make the shortlist for that key award: “It’s a huge one. We were delighted and it’s a notable achievement to be shortlisted in that one. There was a great buzz throughout the company.

“We have a diverse mixture of outstanding people in all disciplines across the company, from the head office and regional offices [in Limerick and Galway] to the people on the ground. They are all wonderful workers, with tremendous technical ability, who are committed and motivated, and they all have their heads down day-on-day and week-on-week, striving for excellence in all aspects of their work.

“As word filtered through that we had been shortlisted, it gave everybody at ShareRidge a pep in their step.”

Indeed, as a progressive and rapidly-growing operation, synonymous with innovative civil engineering solutions, ShareRidge has more than doubled its workforce over the past three years, currently generating direct employment for up to one hundred people … plus considerably more indirectly through the regular use of preferred subcontractors, depending on what projects are being delivered at any given time.

Cróna agrees that the staff are the backbone of the business: “Every single person at ShareRidge contributes to our success. It’s very much a team effort and it’s the staff who are driving the business on. Without them, we wouldn’t have achieved the success we have to date and we wouldn’t be in the national spotlight at high-profile events such as the Irish Building & Design Awards.”
