Murphystone is Ireland’s premier stone contractor, providing complete one-stop shop solutions to a vast customer base, including the design, sourcing, manufacture, supply and installation of high-quality stone products. Building Ireland touched base with managing director Tom Murphy to get an update.

Since its genesis over a century ago, Murphystone Stone Contractors has been supplying the building industry in Ireland with natural stone products from its own quarries as well as a wide range of materials sourced from around the world.

Granite and limestone are the two main stones produced by the company. The granite is quarried in Sandyford, Dublin and has been used extensively for a variety of building types. Fine examples of Murphystone’s industry-leading craftsmanship can be seen in many commercial buildings, homes and churches throughout Ireland.

The limestone, meanwhile, is quarried in Roscommon and supplied in all types of finish to the building and monument industries. This fine quality limestone offers excellent opportunities for finished memorials, shop fronts, flooring, interior panelling etc.

MD Tom Murphy is the fifth generation of his family to run the business and he points out that an unswerving commitment to delivering high-quality products and customer-service levels have been to the forefront since the beginning and have been instrumental in the evolution over the years, nay decades, of Murphystone into Ireland’s leading commercial stone contractor.

“We always strive to provide quality work above all and to make sure that the client is 100% happy with everything we do. We pride ourselves on offering a complete service, from design through to installation, embracing the latest technology and machinery in our design studio and workshop, backed up by decades of experience, expertise and dedication.”

Tom confirmed that Murphystone are still operating from the same quarry in Barnacullia, County Dublin, while they also have a second quarry in Roscommon. Supplementing the product from their own quarries, they source a wide range of stone from all over the world:

“From the quarry in Dublin, we produce granite and this has been used in many jobs over the years. We specialise in producing the finest quality stone products for commercial and residential markets. As well as producing Dublin Granite and Limestone from our own quarries, we also stock a wide range of stone products from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, China and the rest of the world.”

Through the years, Murphystone has moved with the times to consistently design, manufacture and install modern and fashionable products in the most technologically-advanced manner possible. Modern technology has enabled the company to produce high quality stone to the customers’ specifications and their facility is equipped with state of the art machinery.

The company boasts one of the most up-to-date workshops in Ireland, with the very latest diamond cutting machines. Together with their skilled and experienced stone cutters and a comprehensive drawing service (CAD), they offer the complete package to all architects and building contractors.

“We can provide a full range of services from product design to computer numerical control (CNC) fabrication to suit your needs, or choose from our impressive range of natural stone tiles, counter tops and other products,” Tom told Building Ireland.

“Our modern, purpose-built workshops include state-of-the-art machinery and technology, from computer aided design (CAD) to computer numerical control (CNC) cutting and polishing machines.”
