Quality air conditioning, refrigeration & renewable energy solutions

27 Sep , 2018

For 16 years and counting, Airflow have been installing, commissioning and servicing a market-leading range of air conditioning and refrigeration systems as well as providing unrivalled renewable energy solutions. We travelled to their Ballybrit, Galway base and met founding director Sean Flynn to find out more about the outstanding products and services offered.

Airflow was established in 2002 by Sean Flynn and Aidan Kyne, who between them boast more than half a century of experience in the installation and servicing of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps. Adopting a customer-focussed approach, the company’s knowledgeable and dedicated team of refrigeration, heat pump and ventilation engineers are on call seven days a week.

Quality is at the very heart of everything Airflow stands for and this is reflected in the partnerships they enjoy with the likes of Mitsubiishi Electric, Brink, Daikin and Edpac. Since inception, over 2,000 air-to-air heat pumps and more than 250 air-to-water heat pumps have been installed and Airflow is an F Gas compliant company, registered and audited by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)

Unrivalled service is afforded to customers large and small, with attention to detail and a personal touch guaranteed on every project undertaken, as well as the peace of mind of working with engineers who have amassed over 20 years’ experience in the installation and commissioning of ventilation systems.

Airflow are main agents for Mitsubishi Electric and have installed air conditioning units all over Ireland, covering all applications from the corner shop to large commercial projects, serving a varied customer base including the HSE, Shannon Airport, University College Hospital Galway, Portiuncla Hospital, Fas, NUIG, VEC, Imperial Hotel, Ashford Castle, Westwood House Hotel, Supermacs, the Irish Film Board, Connemara Golf Club, Rehab Care and Sweeney Service Stations.

Airflow also service and install all types of refrigeration equipment, including large refrigeration packs for supermarkets, coldrooms and freezer rooms, dairywall and mineral fridges, freezers, serveovers, fish tanks, ice machines and stainless steel refrigerated displays. Some clients would include Thermoking, Connemara Smokehouse, Spar, Centra, CLS Labs, MJI Meats and Transitions Optical.

In the highly-specialist area of renewable energy, meanwhile, Airflow provides solutions that can lead to substantial long-term savings – the installation of air-to-water heat pumps with underfloor heating and heat-recovery ventilation systems.

Founders Sean and Aidan had worked together in the air conditioning / refrigeration sector for twelve years prior to setting up Airflow, which has been a resounding success story since its inception. “It has gone really well, thankfully,” notes the former. “We started off in ’02 with five staff and we are up to 21 now, which is very encouraging.”

The agencies that Airflow have attracted speak volumes for the high esteem in which they are held in the industry and offer a shining endorsement of their capabilities to deliver optimal, efficient solutions on time and at competitive rates.

As one of Mitsubishi Ireland’s leading air conditioning agents, Airflow have been awarded Business Solutions Partner status by the renowned Japanese manufacturer, fully endorsed for installations, repairs and maintenance. The Mitsubishi Electric BSP programme forges a link between the company’s advanced products and the professional installation of these products.

Mitsubishi Electric devised this programme to raise industry standards and improve working methods by enlisting a network of highly professional installers trusted partners. As a BSP, Airflow must meet certain standards in installation, commissioning, maintenance, Health & Safety, corporate social responsibility and refrigerant handling.

While air conditioning and refrigeration systems are typically installed into commercial premises, hospitals, laboratories, offices, etc., Brink air-to-water heat pumps, underfloor heating and heat recovery systems serve the residential market.

Airflow is a Guinness-approved installer of refrigeration and bottle coolers, while the diverse range of products offered to the licensed trade extends to ice machines and glass washers for bars. Nationwide installation and maintenance services are provided.

Marrying high-quality products with unbeatable customer service has proven to be a winning formula for Airflow. Regarding the key to the company’s enduring success and ability to attract a steady flow of repeat custom as well as benefiting from positive referrals through word of mouth, Sean states:

“We are on call 24/7 and we strive to look after all of our customers as best we can. We deal with service calls extremely quickly, with a fleet of eight vans on the road at all times. It’s important to give that level of back-up service and to let customers know they can depend on you to not only install the best systems but to keep them performing as economically and efficiently as possible at all times.

“Our engineers regularly attend Mitsubishi training programmes and they are continuously upskilled. Mitsubishi Electric are extremely fussy about who they work with and insist on the highest standards of workmanship. They only pick a select number of Business Solutions Partners and we can offer a seven-year warranty on all Mitsubishi plants we install.”

Of course, the economic downturn adversely affected all businesses associated with the building trade but Airflow remained relatively busy and the fact that they managed to hold onto all of their core personnel during this challenging period is testament to their excellence.

Going forward, the plan is to continue to provide the best available products, backed with the high level of customer care for which Airflow are renowned.

“We’ll stick to what we are doing and continue to provide excellent service, which will hopefully lead to further growth,” Sean concludes. “Renewable energy is a significant growth area for us at the moment, with more and more homeowners going for air-to-water heat pumps, so we are very confident about the future across all three areas of the business.”
