13 Mar , 2017

Under the shrewd management of directors Martin Lydon and Stephen McConnell, the LMC Group has been one of the fastest growing success stories in the Irish construction industry and with the winds of economic change blowing strongly, they have no intention of resting on their laurels.

With offices in Dublin and Limerick, the ever burgeoning LMC Group comprises of three complimentary departments – LMC Engineering, LMC Facilities and LMC Energy – and offer nationwide coverage.

LMC Engineering are highly experienced professional and competent engineering contractors. Their team has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry and they have completed some of the most noteworthy projects in the country. They offer the complete building services suite of services from design through coordination, programming, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, demonstration and handover.

LMC Facilities is the total life cycle care company within the Group. They have the capability to deliver the complete life cycle care package to service the built environment from initial design through construction, life time operation to optimum end of life replacement.

Their extensive expertise supported by their bespoke CAFM system ensures that their clients’ assets are safe, maintained in accordance with statutory regulations and are cared for within the best practice guidelines.

The group is fully accredited Quality ISO 9001, Environmental ISO 14001 and Safety OHSAS 18001, with their knowledge and experience, LMC can deliver all of their services safely and in the most energy and cost efficient manner.

Company directors Martin Lydon and Stephen McConnell sowed the seeds for the LMC Group back in 2008 and they bring a combined total of 55 years’ experience in the construction industry to the table.

“It was a bit of a struggle at the beginning, setting up the company during the economic downturn, but we’ve steadily grown over the years,” recalled Stephen.

That’s something of an understatement on Stephen’s behalf because moments later in the course of his conversation with Building Ireland he revealed that the Group’s staff numbers have risen from the initial founding members to over 150 in the space of eight years!

“We have put together a handpicked team of likeminded professionals selected from some of the best people we have met throughout our careers, all of our people are highly skilled and committed, they’re top class every single one of them,” added Stephen.

“Thankfully, business has been very good of late. The engineering side of the company is going very well and we have a number of large projects around the country on the go at the minute in Galway, Limerick and the Dublin area.

“We have a number of very prestigious projects in NUIG and UL for example. We also have some major projects in the Dublin area especially in the student accommodation, office fit out and healthcare sectors”.

“Our Facilities Company is really going from strength to strength, we have a number of major nationwide clients in both the private and public sectors including the Irish Prison Service, Irish Wheelchair association, NUIG and Affidea Healthcare to name a few. We provide a full Facilities Management Service from technical building and asset management to porterage, soft services and landscaping. We tailor our FM services to match each client’s requirements to ensure their business and their assets are managed to meet their specific needs, in short we take care of their assets so they can take care of their business. We pride ourselves on not just managing our clients estate or assets, but in bringing our wealth of technical experience and cutting edge industry innovations to each client to ensure they get maximum value”

At LMC they believe that the best results in project delivery are achieved through partnership and effective collaboration and they are very excited about the possibilities that the emergence of BIM (Building Information Modelling) has brought for the industry and have fully embraced the system.

They aim to be an industry leader in collaborative processes. To this end, they have developed and invested in a bespoke BIM collaboration venue at their Dublin offices which will provide an environment for entire project teams to fully interact.

This environment includes state-of-the-art collaborative audio visual equipment providing simultaneous on site and off site interaction and live access to the Common Data Environment (CDE).

This allows everyone from the client and the design team through to project costing teams, main contractors and specialist sub-contractors to work in a fully collaborative environment.

They can cater for each stage of the process from the development of the Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR), BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and Master Information Delivery Plan (MIDP) through to the Project Information Model (PIM) and the Asset Information Model (AIM),
It is LMC’s company policy, whether the construction is a traditional build or a BIM project, to deliver a fully interactive Asset Information Model (AIM) at handover, providing each client with an information model used to manage, maintain and operate the assets. We are currently working on integrating our bespoke CAFM system with our Asset Information Model which will allow a previously unheard of level of client information and interaction in the management of their estate.

“LMC might be a young company but due to our background in the Industry we provide our clients with big company performance while also guaranteeing a personal service”

“Our BIM capabilities also separate us from our competitors. BIM is at the cutting edge of the industry and we are putting the building blocks in place now to ensure that we are at the forefront of BIM and an industry leader in the field.

“We’ve come through the lean years, the signs are good for the industry and we’re well positioned to take advantage. Our plan is to grow the business further over the next five years.”
