O’Hagan Crane Hire Ltd in Co Derry have been supplying cranes with operators, appointed person’s, slinger banks man, man baskets, crane forks spreader beams, bog mats,& steel plates for almost 10 years now. Building Ireland spoke to O’Hagan Crane Hire Ltd to find out what they’re all about.

There are certain lines of work where you simply need to know what you’re doing. Crane work definitely falls under that category, having gained so much experience in the field down through the decades.

A family run business located on the outskirts of Magherafelt, O’Hagan Crane Hire Ltd established in 2006 by the three O’Hagan brothers, Tony, Nigel and Philip. Between them they carry 50+ years of experience in operating & rigging cranes, with their wealth of knowledge they can recommend the perfect crane for any task.

With an address at 1 Brackagh Road, Moneymore, Magherafelt, Co Derry, BT457RR, O’Hagan Crane Hire Ltd provide their service all over Northern Ireland and the Republic, whilst also branching out to the UK and Europe with their cranes and operators.

The company name may be self-explanatory as to exactly what the business is all about, but O’Hagan’s do more than just hire out their cranes they also specialise in contract lifts for all size of jobs.

They also have gear to move heavy machines up to 80 Ton within factories by means of Air skates also known as Air bearings which are robust, low profile, high capacity load-moving modules used in sets of four or more to enable large or heavy objects to be moved with ease Compressed air and a smooth operating surface are all that is required to enable air skates to virtually eliminate friction. Unlike wheels, Air Skates provide omnidirectional capabilities, meaning that a load can be moved in any direction without the need for complex turning manoeuvres (see their website www.ohagancranehire.co.uk for a short video).

Indeed some of their contract work has seen their cranes, as well as operators, stationed at the same work site for 18+ months. They have cranes from 25ton to 100ton and they all are tested every six months to ensure they are fit for purpose, lifting gear & man ridding baskets are also tested on a six monthly basis by a external testing company. They do anything from small jobs such as lifting roof trusses to contracts like lifting large boiler parts using cranes up to 750ton on the Lisahally Biomass Plant.

All of the above make for busy times for the brothers, whom are kept on their toes 12 months a year. O’ Hagan Crane Hire Ltd supply crane’s & drivers to international crane companies ie: BMS heavy Crane division from Denmark. At present they have men completing a wind farm project in Scotland before moving on to another on the East coast of England. They have also carried out projects in Poland & Sweden within the last couple of years.

Health & Safety is a huge aspect of the business too and something which the O’Hagan’s take very seriously when it comes to their work. They take the Health & Safety of all personnel involved in the projects they undertake, extremely seriously this includes the customer, their staff & members of the public.

So as to achieve a high level of safety, O’Hagan Crane Hire staff will frequently attend safety training sessions which emphasise the importance of Health & Safety and best practices.

O’Hagan Crane Hire’s unblemished safety record lends credence to the importance they place on Health & Safety, and their wide range of lifting projects over the years in the crane business and their fleet of cranes, maintained and serviced to a level exceeding legal requirements, help them provide a professional service to their customers on every job they carry out.

Proper insurance cover is of vital importance when carrying out lifts, they ensure all operators are medically fit & CPCS qualified – just another reason why their customers don’t look past them and it’s no surprise when you take into account their track record and the professional job they carry out every time.

So if it’s a crane or an operator you need, no matter how big or small the job is, look no further than O’Hagan Crane Hire Ltd.
