Housing Alliance event to highlight housing priorities for new Oireachtas

6 May , 2020

The Housing Alliance, a collaboration of six of Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs), will hold an online political briefing event for members of the Oireachtas tomorrow, Thursday, 7th May.

The briefing will highlight the key role Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) can play in overcoming the challenges currently facing the housing sector and in delivering social and affordable homes for families and individuals who urgently need them. Oireachtas members from all political parties / groupings have been invited to participate.

Circle Voluntary Housing, Clúid Housing, Co-operative Housing Ireland, Oaklee Housing, Respond and Tuath Housing are the six organisations that make up the Housing Alliance. The briefing will be led by Declan Dunne, Chair of the Housing Alliance and CEO of Respond; and Sharon Cosgrove, Vice-Chair of the Housing Alliance and CEO of Oaklee Housing. The CEOs of the other Housing Alliance members will also participate.

Commenting in advance, Declan Dunne said: “Recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic must include a strong focus on resolving long-term housing challenges. AHBs are ready, willing and equipped to play our part. We are passionate about and committed to providing homes for people who need them.

“This year’s general election demonstrated how strongly the electorate feel about housing and the impact the housing crisis is having all around the country. We must not lose sight of that. The delivery of social and affordable homes must be a priority for the new Oireachtas. Our event tomorrow will provide an opportunity to discuss the critical issues with all political parties to ensure social and affordable homes can continue to be delivered at the scale required over the course on the new Oireachtas term.”
