Finish, quality and reliability

8 Jun , 2021

Based in Inniscarra, Co Cork, Mid Cork Construction specialises in the building of one-off houses and renovation work. Building Ireland heard all about the company from its owners James and Athony Looney recently.

2020 marked 32 years in business for Mid Cork Construction and the plan for the coming year is to keep the business moving forward in these unprecedented times.

Located in Ballyanly, Inniscarra, Co Cork, Mid Cork Construction operates with full-time staff and the ongoing support of subcontractors. The company specialises primarily in building of high end one-off houses and renovation work.

Building Ireland touched base with Anthony Looney recently to learn all about the state of business at the moment for Mid Cork Construction and some of the company’s on-going projects around the Rebel County.

“We’re established 32 years now and basically what we do is build one-off high end, high worth houses,” Anthony outlined.

“We specialise in renovation work as well and the majority of our work would be within a 20-kilometre radius of Cork City.

“We’d also do some work in the schools during the summer holidays.”

Schools projects certainly helped Anthony and his team during lockdown, too.

Now, as we enter 2021, business is strong again at Mid Cork Construction.

“I’m glad to say that business at the moment here is fine,” Anthony stated.

“We had a few jobs that had to be cancelled due to the lockdown, but we got back up and running in May and we’re kept busy here at the moment.

“We were definitely affected by it, but we got through it. We’d a couple of school jobs that helped to get us through the lockdown and, thankfully, we are back now busy again.”

Having 32 years’ experience and contacts certainly helps in difficult and indeed unprecedented times and it seems Mid Cork Construction has come through them with flying colours.

In fact, another school project could well be on the horizon for the company.

“We have two one-off houses that are going on at the moment for us around Cork.

“They’re both high end projects, which is what we specialise in here, and it’s something that we’re now known for.”

Indeed, high end one-off housing work has been a speciality of Mid Cork Construction for some time now.

Clients put their trust in the company to carry out the projects to a tee and its track record has been nothing short of excellent so far.

So, what has been the secret to success for the business thus far?

According to Anthony, three common denominators can be seen in Mid Cork Construction’s work for each and every project they undertake.

“I think it comes down to finish, quality and reliability,” he stated plainly.

“I think that’s why our clients choose us first ahead of others out there and hopefully we can keep providing them with those three things going forward.”

Being able to come up with competitive pricing for projects is very much vital in the construction business and Anthony and his team make sure to stay as competitive, if not more, than other construction businesses in the region tendering for similar projects.

The months ahead are set to busy ones for Mid Cork Construction as the company stretches into its 33rd year.

As it stands, the company has enough on-going projects to see it through to summer 2021, so it’s no surprise to hear the optimistic tone in Anthony’s voice when asked about the months ahead.

“We have enough here now for the next six months or so,” he said.

“I’d be an optimistic person anyway and we are optimistic for the future.

“It’s true you never know what’s around the corner, but we’re optimistic here for the months ahead.”

Great to hear.
