Diversity is the key to success

26 Nov , 2020

The ability to be able to diversify into different areas of your chosen trade goes a long way to being a successful business. That is why many companies offer a wide range of services to their customers and for this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we profile a plumbing and heating company that offers so much more.

AOS Plumbing and Heating, AOS Construction and Bathrooms4U are three businesses run under the same umbrella by Tralee native Alan O’Sullivan.

With branches in Tralee (headquarters), Cork, Limerick and Dublin this business has certainly, scaled lofty heights since it was first established in 1996.

“The plumbing and heating end of the business slowed down considerably during the recession as you can imagine, so we had to look at other areas and we basically diversified into bathrooms. Fromdoing one or two a week, we would now be doing 20-30 bathrooms per week,” stated Alan. “We supply, fit and design your dream bathroom in just five days.

“Bathrooms4U has a very simple business model: we design, supply and fit beautiful bathrooms , wetrooms and shower rooms at amazing prices. Working to the highest standards of craftsmanship, our fully qualified installation crews strip out and properly dispose of the old bathroom before fitting a new luxury replacement. All the plumbing, fitting, wiring and tiling is carried out to a fixed work schedule, normally five days, and the finished result is not only guaranteed to delight but is also guaranteed for a year.

“We’re very conscious of the upheaval renovations can cause, so our tradesmen operate in a thoughtful manner and reduce the disturbance to a minimum by treating each job as if they’re working in their own homes. You can arrange a free in-home consultation with the b4u team by contacting one of their local offices near you. Find out more about B4U offering at www.b4u.ie

“Planning is an essential part of preparing for a bathroom make-over. It is a key element in ensuring that the project goes smoothly and, just as importantly, that you end up with your dream bathroom without exceeding your budget. You can start with a visit to one of our showrooms to view the range of bathrooms we have on offer or alternatively contact us to arrange a free in-home consultation. Often clients do both.

“Our friendly staff are only too happy to share their experience and knowledge while guiding you through the wonderful array of complete packages B4U have on offer.”

“The work we carry out is for three sectors, mobility, domestic and commercial.

“The latter has really taken off in the last couple of years and we would be involved in a lot of hotel work, where they are upgrading their facilities.”

There are 60 staff in Bathrooms4U, some of whom sub-contract work from the company, but it is very much a team effort by all involved, according to Alan.

“The majority of the sub-contractors have been carrying out work for us for many years now and they know the standards that we expect, and we know the quality of work that they can produce. The same can be said about the direct staff, it is all about working together and making sure that the customer is happy with the end-product.”

Alan prides himself on delivering on every project and he has worked hard to establish all facets of the business and particularly the bathroom section.

“We are proud of our strong bathroom plumbing background. Now as we are growing and expanding we also pride Bathrooms 4U in electrical work, tiling, carpentry and painting. We strive to provide our customers with the highest bathroom service. We design, fit and supply bathrooms in both domestic and commercial markets. We provide bathroom grants and schemes; such as the Mobility Bathroom Grant.”

Last year, the company there were 578 bathrooms completed in they look set to beat the record in 2020, if the first few months of the year are anything to go by.

There is no doubt that Bathrooms4U are the market leaders in their area of expertise and Alan stressed that is where they want to stay.

“The focus is to continue expanding this area of the business. The hotel work has really taken off and we are very much a nationwide company. Our reputation for delivering top class work on-time and on-budget precedes us, but we know that we can’t rest on our laurels and we are continuously looking at ways to improve the business.”

All the products we use are sourced locally which is a huge selling point also.

“We have five sales reps on the road full time and we have seen huge growth in the business. We would also have a lot of repeat customers on the books now too, which is always a good sign.”

Safety is a key issue in the construction industry and Alan stressed that they take this area very seriously indeed.

“At Bathrooms4U we provide our employees with up to date safety equipment, safety courses and training. We encourage our staff and customers to comment on safety issues to help us improve our safety record. All vehicles and equipment are checked weekly and our store depot to ensure all health and safety equipment properly functions and vehicles are in good working order.”
