Clash of the Titan

6 Mar , 2019

It’s only three years since Keith Proudfoot and Stephen Kennedy combined forces to set up Titan Roofing Ltd but the Swords Enterprise Park based company has wasted no time in becoming one of the most sought-after roofing consultants and contractors in Dublin and beyond.

Now in its fifth year, the Irish Construction Industry Awards has established itself as the premier event in Ireland for benchmarking excellence in the construction industry in Ireland.

Since launching in 2014, the Irish Construction Industry Awards has recognised on a national scale some of Ireland’s leading construction projects and the teams behind them.

The Irish Construction Industry Awards 2018 took place on Thursday, June 14th, at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin and was attended by the cream of Ireland’s construction industry, offering a unique opportunity to network and celebrate with hundreds of senior executives.

Keith Proudfoot and Stephen Kennedy donned the black ties for the second year running as their company – Titan Roofing Ltd – was once again shortlisted in the ‘Sub-Contractor of the Year’ category. Although they didn’t win on the night they were delighted to have been shortlisted and celebrated with clients of two winning projects which they had been involved with. These include Commercial project of the Year by PJ Hegarty at 40 Molesworth Street and Green Project of the Year: Central Bank of Ireland.

“It was our second time to be a finalist which is huge achievement for us when you consider that we are only in business for three years,” Keith stated in conversation with Building Ireland. “The nomination recognises the high standards we have set and, from our point of view, it is very rewarding.

“We noticed it very much last year that even just getting shortlisted helps to get your name out there. It’s a fantastic form of recognition that opened doors for us some of the bigger guys out there.”

Titan Roofing Ltd’s goal is to provide their clients with something new, a complete Roofing experience. They strive to change the typical ‘roofing man in a van’ perception into the professional service required today.

From initial concept design stage, they can produce a technical submittal to satisfy even the most demanding clients. Their proposals include; specifications, detail drawings, U-value calculations, tapered insulation scheme’s, BCAR inspection plan, program of works, method statements and much more specific for each individual contract.

Their aim is to assist with the selection of an appropriate waterproofing system to suit the building structure and client requirements. They provide detailed specifications and site specific working drawings.

Keith, Stephen & Co have extensive experience with the design and installation of Torch-on membranes, Single Ply PVC membranes, Resitrix Hybrid membrane, Liquid Coatings, Mastic Asphalt, and Composite Panels.

Whilst they are predominantly flat roofing specialists, they also have the appropriate resources to consult regarding traditional Slates, Tiles, Copper, Lead and Zinc waterproofing.

Value engineering is not just cutting costs, Titan Roofing Ltd pride themselves on providing clients with an honest evaluation of their roof. Making a saving whilst maintaining the roof integrity and long term performance requires specialist input. They can assist to achieve long term cost effective solutions and maintenance programs to ensure the long life of the roof.

In addition, the Health & Safety of their employees, other site staff and the general Public takes preference over taking risks for financial gain. Their services involve some of the most dangerous activities in the construction sector including working at height and hot works. They therefore produce site specific Risk assessment and control measures for every project.

Titan Roofing Ltd started trading on July 1st, 2015 and, fast forward three years, they now have 21 direct employees on their books.

“For the first six months it was just the two of us out trying to drum up work and we were using sub-contractors for the installation work,” Keith recalled. “We still use sub-contractors and some weeks we could have up to 45 men out on site.

“We are approved installers of Bitumen, PVC, Liquid, Hot melt and Asphalt supplied by the country’s most reputable waterproofing suppliers. Soprema, IKO Ireland, Laydex, Moy Materials, Icopal, Bauder, and Kingspan Insulated Cladding Panels (Roof & Walls).”

Back in February, Titan Roofing Ltd scooped the award for ‘Best and Most Unusual Renolit Alkorplan project in Europe 2017’ for work they completed on Howth Yacht Club last year.

They are currently on site at the Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge (Monami), Herbert Park Hotel (SISK), Trinity Business School (JJR) as well as student accommodation projects Church Street (GEM) and Brunswick Street (Bennetts) for GSA Global Student Accommodation following the successful completion of Mill Street student accommodation (BAM) for the same client.

When asked to elaborate on how Titan Roofing Ltd has managed to achieve such rapid growth in such a short space of time, Keith answered: “It is due to a combination of hard work and good timing. Both myself and Stephen have over 20 years’ experience in the business and we got on the right jobs at the right time with some of our existing contacts in the industry.

“We do travel throughout the country, and have completed projects in Cork and the midlands, but at the moment the majority of our work is based in and around Dublin. As things stand, we have contracts secured to keep us going up to the middle of next year.”

Dependability is another one of Titan Roofing’s strong points. They are committed to meeting programme deadlines and strive on challenging projects. If they say they can do it, they mean it.
