Breaking new ground

10 Apr , 2020

Headquartered in Castlebellingham, County Louth and with a second office, strategically-located in Sandyford, Dublin 18, M&P Mechanical offers a large range of services across a variety of different sectors.

Consistently achieving high client satisfaction rates with their projects, culminating in an impressive volume of repeat business. All expertise and specialist equipment is provided in-house, from design and installation through to project handover and maintenance services.

The company’s work has been recognised at national level on numerous occasions and this year is no different as they head to the 2019 Plumbing & Heating awards nominated in a multitude of categories.

“It is always nice to be recognised for the work that we do and to pick up awards is always special. We are up for four awards and this all looks good on our CV when we are showing potential clients what we can do,” said company MD Mark O’Rourke.

When asked how M&P Mechanical continue to grow and expend, and where they show case the work, Mark went on to say, “We wouldn’t advertise at all really. I suppose you could say word of mouth is our best form of advertising as we get lots of recommendations from our customers.”

M&P Mechanical can count some of the countries leading building firms, local authorities, state bodies and multi-national companies amongst their customer base.

Repeat custom is a sign that a business is providing the right type of service and M&P’s reputation is now growing beyond the shores of our small island as Mark explains. “We are currently working in Berlin for the American based, international office space company WeWorks, in conjunction with the STS Group. We carried out our first project in Ireland with them and the relationship grew well from there. They have got us involved in Germany by default, which is breaking into new ground for us. We now have a 12 month pipeline in Berlin, and we are just waiting to start in to Brussels.”

“This is another route for the company. Working abroad is not something that we actively sought to do, but I always felt that we could do it and these are exciting times for the business. It is a massive opportunity for us to grow more, and widen our catchment for work in the years ahead.”

M&P Mechanical are still involved in a vast array of projects here in Ireland and to carry out all this work, they are fortunate to have a loyal and highly skilled team.

“We have between 80 and 120 trades people on site each day, and we rely on specialist contractors, with who we have a long trading history with, but most of the work is done direct.

We’re lucky to have a highly skilled & loyal team here. We treat our team as fairly as possible and there are many opportunities to grow within the company, which I think they appreciate.

“We are always trying to train new people and we always keep apprentices on the books and we would have lads that started off as apprentices here who are now contract managers.”

As Mark stated, he is fortunate to have such a loyal staff, but he admits that when it comes to sourcing new staff who are skilled workers, it can be an arduous task these days.

“It can be hard to source skilled workers as there is a lack of them in the country at the moment. Many left the country when the recession hit and very few lads went into the construction industry during that period, so there were no apprentices coming through. There is a big gap there, that is why we look after the guys we have so well, and we have been repaid by their dedication to us.”

One project that M&P are currently working on is very close to Mark’s heart and that is the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, which is very close to their headquarters in Castlebellingham.

“We hope to showcase that project when it is complete. It is ongoing at the moment. We are doing the heating and ventilation and as everyone in Louth will tell you, the Fairways is a landmark in the county, so it is a project we’re very proud to be involved in.”

M&P Mechanical strive to offer extremely high-quality solutions and services, with an innovative approach and value engineering solutions which can offer a superior package tailored to clients’ exact requirements.

Complex projects have been delivered in all sectors including commercial, industrial, leisure, residential, retail and mixed developments. With a support team in place to assist end users with any issues or questions they may have or work they need clarified.

Indeed, the company adapts a positive and constructive approach to client relations and staff are trained to respond to changing customer requirements. Through steady investment in resources, personnel and services, M&P Mechanical have at their disposal the most competent people for every project with the ability to supply the best product every time, using the safest and most efficient working model.

Embracing an increased and responsible understanding of renewable energy, the company is enjoying organic growth and is already firmly established as one of Ireland’s premier mechanical contractors.

The trust of a host of main contractors and the skilled workmanship of his staff have been instrumental in the success of Mark O’Rourke’s high-achieving mechanical services company.

“Frank Fahy was the first main contractor to show confidence in me and the Shannon Homes Group Dublin really put us on the map, while we also have great working relationships with the likes of Cosgrave Developments and Walls Construction and recently undertaken a new project with Cairn Homes.”

“We put absolutely everything into each and every project to try to make sure we also get the next job. We are very busy in Dublin now and the North East has also opened up again in the last 12-18 months, with a lot of work coming up in Dundalk and Drogheda for both Urban Life Developments Ltd. & Shannon Homes (Drogheda) Ltd., so we are very confident about the future.

“We are in a position where we can cherry pick our jobs and look at the more prestigious contracts which will enhance our reputation even further.”
