ASMS celebrate 10th anniversary

The structure of any industrial and commercial building is based around the Mechanical Services that is incorporated into the edifice. There are companies that specialise in this area and for this month’s edition of Building Ireland we profile one such firm.

Located in their new offices in Little Island, Cork, Architectural Steel & Mechanical Services (ASMS) are a nationwide company that has been providing an excellent service to a large customer base for ten years now. Established in 2006, ASMS work on small to large scale projects for companies in the commercial, industrial and institutional sectors. Business Development manager Hubert Burrows and directors David Neary and Aidan Mangan have brought together many years’ experience to make the company one of the leading firms in its field of expertise in Ireland.

Through the experience gathered over the years, the company has become a leading player within the Irish Construction Industry, providing a complete Mechanical Services and Maintenance Support Contracts. A selection of their clients include the HSE, UCC, An Garda, Cork University Hospital, Novartis, Pepsi, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Cork Opera House, ESB, Varming Consulting Engineers, St Luke’s Home Cork, Noonan, Cumnor, Dunnes Stores, Bon Secours health system, Pepsico, CIT, Clancy Construction, Cork Constitution, Irish Distillers, Irish Prison Service, Dairy Gold and Cork City Council just to name a few.

“We work alongside a number of reputable firms that we have a long association with and also a great business relationship,” said Aidan.

ASMS specialise in many areas but medical healthcare would be one sector that they have become renowned as specialists.

“We have been involved in a lot of work for the HSE over the past ten years and we would consider ourselves to be experts in this area.

“Recently completed projects include: new Paediatric unit and upgrade of various wards in Cork University Hospital and a new Theatre and CT/MRI in Bon Secour Hospital Tralee Co. Kerry,” said Hubert.

Efficiency is one of the key’s to ASMS’s success as they have developed the strengths, resources and flexibility that have built it into one of the most successful companies of its kind in Ireland.

Maintenance work has been the backbone of the business for many years and they have a number of ongoing mechanical services contracts including work that takes them to the U.K. David stated that there was always a need to put the customer first and ensure that any project was completed to their specifications.

“We exhibit a culture unwilling to sacrifice customer satisfaction and long term relationships. ASMS have a unique presence in the construction sector and continually search for ways to adapt to the continually evolving construction environment and develop new expertise to satisfy the diverse needs of our clients.

“In pursuit of such excellence we have recently been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 accreditation. Establishing a customer focus to ensure customer satisfaction was our primary vision with our quality management accreditation where we can design a system and process to consistently meet client requirements.”

ASMS have been closely involved in all major facets of the industrial development in Ireland over the last number of years, providing their unique and comprehensive range of services to the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Leisure, Educational, Commercial and Retail Sectors.

Thirty skilled workers are employed by the company, all of who are experts in their own areas, ranging from detail design to installation, from costing to project management, from material procurement to start-up, in the disciplines of ASMS. ASMS have implemented a system where every detail of a project is carefully reviewed before work commences from quality planning, samples, sub-contractor evaluation and supervision. “The Directors and Management are committed to the quality management system. Adherence to the quality management system operating procedures ensures conformance with the Clients specified requirements,” stated Hubert.

Health and Safety is paramount within the company and it is their policy to comply with all statutory and regulatory safety requirements and to secure, a workplace that is safe and healthy for its employees and persons not employed by the Company who may be affected by its activities.

“We continuously review and revise our Health & Safety documents and have been recently awarded the OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditations.

“ASMS holds an excellent safety record. Health and Safety is more than site safety and rigorous processes to minimise risk. We have invested in a programme of initiatives to engage in the attitudes and behaviour of our staff and sub-contractors,” stated David.

The team at ASMS are always looking to the future and Aidan added that they have a five-year planned expansion programme that they are currently implementing.
