An electric partnership

9 Aug , 2019

The ESB are renowned for sticking with what they know best and this includes their sub-contractors, many of whom have been carrying out services for the national electricity provider for many years.

In this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we profile on such company as Donegal based Lynch Brothers North West Plant Hire Ltd have been working for the ESB since 1996.

This family run business is headed by brothers Daniel, Con and John Lynch and they provide a wide range of services in the plant hire, civil engineering and utilities sectors. Their sister Bridget are also involved in the day to day running of the business.

They are the main poling contractor for the ESB which sees them cover the north west as well as the likes of Louth, Meath, Westmeath and Kildare.

“We have been with the ESB since 1996 and we have never had an idle day since then,” said Daniel. “Ninety percent of our work would be for the ESB. It is a good contract to have and the fact that any job they have asked us to do, we have completed it, stands us in good stead with them.”

Daniel revealed that they have been involved in a wide range of projects for the state company, which has at times pushed them to their limit.

“We would be in every type of terrain imaginable from bog land to break through rocks, but we have the equipment to carry out all types of work.”

Headquartered just five miles outside Buncrana, the company has wide range of plant that includes excavators from three to 70 tonne with a variety of buckets and rock breakers. Specialised excavators with wide tracks for bog conditions. Dozers with GPS, Long Reach Excavators, Rubber tyre machines, Dumpers and Rollers to name just some.

“Initially, I started off myself in 1995 with a digger and it has just grown from there with Con coming on board a year or so later. We have built up the plant over the years and if we need a machine for a specific job, we will go and get one.”

Lynch Brothers carry out a number civil engineering projects also which sees them working on large groundworks schemes including the laying of large diameter pipes in deep excavations; new road build; bulk excavation; waste water treatment plants; water treatment plants and wind farm schemes.

“We do a lot of civil engineering work for various building contractors, but like I said earlier, the majority of our work is for the ESB.

“This work involves the erection of poles in live line conditions and involves our staff going through a range of training. Some of the utility work we have completed includes the laying of ducting through bog areas to windfarms including the construction of roads on geotextile in bog areas.

The company has carried out Civil Engineering and utility contracts from such companies as E.S.B Networks, Donegal County Council, Sligo County Council, Energia, and the Lagan Group.

Daniel stressed that none of the success that they have achieved would have been possible without the dedication of their employees.

“We value our employees.  We train employees to the highest level for the job to which they perform and look after their welfare and safe-being in all tasks of work.  We seek to produce the highest standards in our work so that a satisfactory job can be delivered.

The company guarantees complete customer satisfaction by its hands-on management approach which has been developed over the course of many years in the Irish construction industry.

“We have a stringent Health & Safety policy and take great pride in our perfect record. We encourage ongoing training and knowledge-sharing among staff members. In addition, all our machinery is checked weekly to ensure that it’s in perfect working order and that all legal requirements are met.”

Lynch Brothers North West Plant Hire Ltd’s experience and capability is demonstrated throughout projects. Throughout the various projects it has been involved in, the firm has provided specialist civil services to meet the project requirements.

“We work closely with our customers to ensure everything runs smoothly from beginning to end of hire with our professional and reliable service.  Our customers always come back for our reliable service at competitive rates for that guaranteed excellent service.  We know going the extra mile, we would be able to provide that more personal service to ensure our customers satisfaction to meeting all their needs.”

The company has not been afraid to move with the times and if the work is there, they have know problem meeting the demand by taking on more staff if necessary.

“A lot of customers would be with us for many years going back to when the business was first established. Everyone is treated the same here and once we are employed to do a project, the customer knows that it will be done to the best of our abilities, which always meets their requirements. Once we can continue to do that then, we should have no problems for the future.”
