A winning formula at Chadwicks Naas

6 Jan , 2021

Team effort and customer service were the secret ingredients of Chadwick Naas’ winning formula at last year’s Octabuild Builders Merchant Excellence Awards. Manager Mick Monahan reflects on their achievement in claiming the ‘Excellence in Business Management’ award.

The Octabuild Builders Merchant Excellence Awards 2019 were presented on the 7th of November at a gala event in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Over 250 guests, including shortlisted merchants and representatives of the builder’s merchant trade throughout the country, attended the prestigious event which was hosted by the eight Octabuild members – Dulux, Glennon Brothers, Gyproc, Instantor, Irish Cement, Kingspan Insulation, Tegral Building Products and Wavin.

Last year the Octabuild Awards underwent a revamp, with a renewed focus on excellence. This is to better reflect the modern builder’s merchant sector in terms of business management, customer service, sales and marketing, innovation, leadership, diversity, partnership and communication.

Commenting on the quality of the entries, Chair of the independent Judging Panel, Liam O’Gorman, said: “It is clear that the industry in which today’s builder’s merchants operate has evolved hugely and that merchants have led the way in embracing this changing landscape.

“More sophisticated business systems, an enhanced skill base and a keen focus on the environment, health and safety and assistance for the local community feature strongly across the country and is highly commendable.”

Octabuild Chairman, Mark Filgate said: “It’s important for Octabuild that the Awards highlight to the building and construction industry the excellence of Irish builders merchants.

“We are delighted with the enthusiastic response to the new style awards this year where merchants from all over the country have put themselves and their teams forward to showcase what’s excellent in the industry.”

One of the big winners on the night was Chadwicks Naas which came out on top in the ‘Excellence in Business Management’ management category.

According to the judges, Chadwicks Nass is a first-class store managed by an extremely professional and dedicated team. They also said that the yard is the best they had seen as part of the judging process, and the store has a forensic focus on health and safety.

“It’s an extremely prestigious recognition for the branch and the team,” branch manager Mick Monahan remarked to Building Ireland. “I know it sounds corny, but everyone pulls together, and it really is a team effort. If our colleagues don’t perform, nothing good is going to happen.

“At least half of our team members have over 10 years services,” added Mick who has been the manager for the last 12 years.

Established in 1902, Chadwicks is one of Ireland’s leading supplier of Builders’ and Plumbers’ Materials.

Part of Grafton Group plc, Chadwicks Group has 50 stores nationwide. They pride themselves in offering competitive prices over a large range of products with highly trained staff willing to help with friendly advice wherever needed. Customer service is an integral part of their business and to the fore at all times.

The Chadwicks Naas team members have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Building Materials they supply, so whether is doors and floors, insulation, energy saving products, plumbing and heating, landscaping, tools, paint, stoves, water conservation products, they are always willing to give advice.

The ‘Excellence in Business Management’ success of Naas branch came in the wake of a new relaunch of their Newbridge Road premises last May.

The relaunch provides a completely refreshed customer experience throughout their premises including their fantastic new class-leading showrooms highlighting the very best in sanitaryware, floors, doors and stoves and incorporating their new innovative design centre.

“We have had a fantastic reaction to our new look from our customers. We’ve been lucky to establish a very loyal local customer base, but we never rest on our laurels. In this game you are only as good as your last sale. We look forward to serving the people of Naas for many years to come.”
