A wealth of marine experience

14 Feb , 2020

Foyle & Marine Dredging is a market leading marine construction company. Managing Director Stephen McCormick tells Building Ireland they have the resources and the knowledge to satisfy their clients’ requirements at all times.

The Letterkenny, Co Donegal headquartered company proudly maintains an unrivalled reputation for consistently achieving highest levels of quality work, customer service and on-time delivery performance.

A marine engineer by trade, Managing Director Stephen set up McCormick Transport, which specialised in transport and plant hire, in 2008 before diversifying into marine dredging.

“We found ourselves concentrating solely on dredging from 2009 onwards so we set up Foyle & Marine Dredging seven years ago in 2012,” he explained.

Dredging, as a process, is used to remove the deposits percolated underwater for the purpose of clearing the water pathway for ships to pass; to create adequate space to construct important bridges, dykes and dams and to weed out silt, intoxicants and pollutants from the bottom of the water.

Over the years, Foyle & Marine Dredging has accumulated all the equipment needed to handle any Dredging work while they also carry out Pipeline Outfalls, Beach Reclamation, Rock Breaking, Rock Armour and Tug and Work Boat services on behalf of their growing list of clients.

A marine outfall is a pipeline or tunnel that discharges municipal or industrial wastewater, storm water, combined sewer overflows, cooling water, or brine effluents from water desalination plants to the sea and they are becoming a main method of ensuring environmental requirements are achieved.

Stephen and his 25-strong workforce adhere to and generally exceed the standards for ethical and environmental beach reclamation while Breaking Rock and Recycling it is a big part of their work. They have all the rock breaking equipment they need but do innovate when they find any new technology.

They also boast a huge amount of experience in Rock Armour projects while Tug boats, lines and experienced personnel available in small or big tug boat crews. Their tug boats crews are properly trained in both marine navigation and health & safety

Quality workmanship and customer service are at the core of what The company boasts a wealth of experience in the haulage industry and is acutely aware that only a completely reliable service is acceptable to the customer.

That is why they offer a ‘hands-on’ approach to their customer requests and work within their parameters to find the most cost-effective and efficient option for them. As a consequence, it will come as no surprise to learn that their services are very much in demand at this point in time. They count the likes of L & M Keating, McLaughlin & Harvey,  BAM Nuttal and Sorensen Civil Engineering Contractors, to name but a few, amongst their list of valued clients.

“Business is going very well and we have a lot of projects, in Ireland and the UK, in the pipeline at the moment.

“We pride ourselves in the competitive prices we offer along with our reliability and workmanship. From the tender stage, one a client makes contact with us, we come up different methodologies to get the job done. There is a lot of experience in  the marine industry within the workforce and our employees are as important as management when it comes to successfully completing jobs.”

Foyle & Marine Dredging’s commitment to continuing to meet the high standards they have set themselves in the past is reflected in their policy of regularly upgrading their fleet.

“We recently made a substantial investment on a new dredger which is the biggest in Ireland at the minute if not in the UK. We felt it was time to invest in bigger equipment because although we are a small company in the overall scheme of things, we operate at big depths and in big quantities. It’s 40m long, has a capacity of 190 tons of dredging and a bucket ladder that reaches a depth of 18 feet. We’re a relatively small company with access to large equipment capable of carrying out jobs big or small.”

With their office open Monday to Friday (8am-5pm), Stephen and the team at Foyle & Marine Dredging Ltd will be happy to hear from you to discuss in detail any marine related projects you may have coming on stream. Give them a call at the numbers below to find out more.
