A leader in structural steel fabrication

15 May , 2017

For more than a decade and a half, Sincon Engineering Ltd in Co Wexford has been a leading provider of structural steel and roofing  and  cladding systems. Building Ireland heard more from Managing Director Tony Sinnott when they caught up with him recently.

These are busy times indeed for Sincon Engineering Ltd and the hope for the family-owned company is that things will stay that way with the books full until next April.

For Tony Sinnott, structural steel work has been in his blood back from the days when he first started working for his late father Michael, who passed in away in August.

The business Tony has today is family run and is beginning to creep up on 20 years since it first got up and running, as he explained himself.

“We’re based in New Ross, Co Wexford and the company would be established 16 years now,” Tony outlined.

“We have 16 staff and I’m the Managing Director. My brother Michael jnr is a co-director as well and I’ve another brother Cathal that’s also involved with the company.”

Sincon Engineering  Ltd supplies, fabricates and erects structural steel frameworks for a vast diversity of different projects.

The company is CE approved to BS EN ISO 1090-1 and 1090-2 for the execution of structural metal components (steel and aluminium structures), BS EN ISO 14731:2006 for the fabrication of structural steel products and BS EN ISO 3834 for welding tasks and responsibilities.

Tony explained that time has flown by fast since the doors were first opened at Sincon Engineering Ltd and that the business has grown rapidly over the past 15 years

The business has successfully expanded its portfolio range now encompassing the supply and fitting of various ranges of roofing and cladding systems, including Alkor Metal Roofing Systems, Vieo Built Up Roofing and Vieo Zinc Standing Seam System, Euroseam 400 Standing Seam Roofing System, Zinc Roofing Systems, Kingspan Roofing and Cladding Systems.

Sincon Engineering Ltd are approved installers of the following roofing products.

“Basically, what we are is a structural steel fabrication company and then we do a bit of roofing and cladding as well,” Tony put it simply.

“We predominantly work for the food and farming industries and we work to the highest standards of health and safety.”

Working to the highest standards is another quality which flows through in the Sinnotts’ blood, with Michael snr having earned himself a solid list of clientele during his own career.

Tony explained that the origins of Sincon Engineering Ltd date back to a time when his father first beat his battle with cancer and things had been ticking over nicely until the economic downturn hit, causing the company to downscale a bit.

“My father, Michael snr, started his own company back in 1961 originally and he had built up a great reputation for himself and, of course, the family,” Tony stated.

“He contracted cancer 20 years ago and pulled through it and it was after that that we started Sincon Engineering. It took off in a big way and it was continually expanding until the recession hit and we had to downsize.

“We’re back up to 16 employees now after being down to five, so things have definitely turned around and we’re looking to the future now and busier times ahead hopefully.”

The list of past projects for Sincon Engineering Ltd is an impressive one and their expertise is what sees their clients coming back to them time and time again.

The bookings are full for the coming months and the expectation is that they’ll be flat out well into the summer with things having taken such a turn for the better in the past 18 months or so.

“Business is quite good,” Tony enthused. “We have projects booked up until next April and one of the current projects that we have on-going is the Waterford City Court House for BAM.

“BAM, John Paul Construction and JJ Rhattigan would be long-time clients of ours, along with David Flynn Ltd.”

So what makes them unique in comparison to other competitors?

“I think it’s the quality of service that we provide. That and the fact that they’re dealing with me directly,” said Tony.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of work that we carry out here and our ability to deliver on time. Health and safety is also paramount to us here.

“We aren’t as big as the likes of Kiernan’s or that, but we pride ourselves on the service that we provide and I think we’ve followed in our father’s footsteps by continuing to carry that out with each project.”

Sincon Engineering Ltd fabricate and erect structural steelwork for Industrial Units, Commercial Units, Pharmaceutical Units, Retail Units, Car Show Rooms and Shop fit outs and dwelling houses.

All of the company’s work adheres to their specific quality guidelines and they have close co-ordination between design teams, and manufacturing enables  their factory production control  to provide a prompt and effective service from fabrication to erection.

On the roofing and cladding end, the company offers a diverse range of different  materials available to suit all requirements from industrial to residential. They also offer a consultancy to clients in choosing the most cost effective and best suited product for their needs.

Sincon Engineering Ltd are on the list of approved contractors for the major roofing and cladding suppliers, such as Kingspan, Laydex and Euroclad and they have completed the facade of schools, apartments, hotels,  leisure  centres, community centres and private dwellings.

“We predominately work all over the south east with the projects that we do here,” said the Managing Director.

“In the past we’ve been to Belfast and Cork with certain projects and we’ve even been to Holland with one specific one, so we’re definitely willing to travel for the right project.”

Sincon Engineering Ltd is a fully CE approved company since the accreditation was brought in two years ago and they are also a member of the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME).
