A decade of building excellence

30 Sep , 2022

Coming up on 10 years in business, McGovern Builders Ltd has earned an enviable reputation for building, extending and renovating beautiful homes in the greater Dublin area.

Established in April 2013 by Padraig McGovern, the company provides quality home building, extensions, renovations and interior fit-outs in Dublin and the surrounding counties of Meath, Kildare and Wicklow. The Dunboyne, Co. Meath-based contractor is also engaged in the commercial sector, having worked on projects such as 26 Temple Lane, Dublin 2, Newbridge College, Co. Kildare and St Saviour’s Priory, Dublin 1.

“We pride ourselves on our exceptional level of service and the quality of the work we produce,” Padraig says.

“We want the experience to be as enjoyable for the client as it is for us. We listen to them and ensure that we get things right first-time. We don’t leave bad work behind us. Our clients’ expectations are very high so there’s an onus on us not to let them down. We strive at all times to satisfy their needs.”

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of McGovern Builders. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. From concept to completion, Padraig and his top-class team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Whether your next project is a new build, extension or renovation, McGovern Builders’ one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied clients.

Committed to making your dream home a reality, the company enjoys an excellent working relationship with sub-contractors, architects and suppliers.

“We employ four people directly who are a mix of carpenters, block-layers, roofers and landscapers. We also look after the groundworks ourselves and operate our own plant, which includes a telehandler, mini diggers and dumpers of different sizes,” Padraig explains.

“We subcontract the electrical and plumbing to the same tried and trusted tradespeople. They include M3 Plumbing & Heating and SJS Electrical. Our suppliers include Brooks, U Value Insulation, Folding Door Company and National Joinery, while we work closely with architects such as Architectural Farm, DMVF Architects, ALWA Architects, Tun Architecture and de Blacam & Meagher Architects, who recommend us for a lot of jobs.

“By employing top-quality tradesmen, working closely with our architects and using only the very best building products, we’re able to deliver the highest quality construction to our clients.”

Fully insured and SEAI-registered, McGovern Builders is currently renovating a large private dwelling in Sutton, and completing an extension in Dublin 6, In addition, Padraig has just started a new build in his home parish of Denn, Co. Cavan.

“We always insist on quality over quantity,” he continues.

“That’s why we don’t take on too many projects at once. The job that we’re on in Sutton at the minute is very high spec and includes a three storey extension, attic conversion and landscaping. We recently carried out a full renovation and extension to a house in Rathmines and spent two years in Blackrock before that where we completely gutted a large house, built on a 200 sq. m. extension over an existing swimming pool and carried out micro-topping and polished concrete floor works.”

A bricklayer by trade, Padraig graduated from University of Ulster Jordanstown with a BSc Degree in Construction Engineering in 2003. He worked on many residential and commercial projects for well-known contractors as an engineer / project manager before going out on his own.

“I worked for Menolly Homes on the Dunboyne Castle Hotel and Farmleigh Woods Castleknock as an Engineer / Foreman. I then worked for McCabe Builders and Wallace Contracting either side of spending a year-and-a-half in Australia. I always wanted to work for myself and my first job was a restaurant renovation in Temple Bar which was followed by a house refurbishment in Rathfarnham. We haven’t looked back since.”

As the cost of building materials continues to sky-rocket, the affable Cavan man takes a “cautious approach” to each project at the moment.

McGovern Builders has built successful and long-lasting relationships with clients, architects, contractors and employees based on respect and trust. This has enabled the company to go from strength to strength. Padraig would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support.
