As regards the commercial end of the business, which will be of most interest to readers of Building Ireland magazine, they, in the words of company director John Cowley, “specialise in architectural glazing – the glass facade you see on the outside of a building.

“We design, manufacture, supply and instal the facades to commercial buildings,” he added.

They encourage innovative thinking, new ideas and continuous improvement and are proud to provide people who are skilled and capable.

This is why high profile clients such as BAM, O’Flynn Construction, C Field Construction, Vision Construction and Ned O’Shea & Sons (Tralee) among others avail of Classic Glazing’s services again and again.

They concentrate their efforts mainly in Munster and the surrounding region but do travel further afield when the need arises.

Their current workload includes Cork City Court and Limerick City Court (both BAM), a student accomodation complex on Western Road in Cork City, Cork University Hospital’s new Radiotherapy and Oncology Department, an apartment complex in Page’s Walk, London and the new Navigation Square development at Albert Quay Cork city

Recent successfully completed projects include Opera Lane Cork City, Tesco Ballincollig, The Red Cow Hotel in Dublin, Skibbereen National School and Kent Train Station Cork.

“We have a vast experience in curtain walling, we’ve been doing it since the early eighties,” John outlined. “We have our own in-house design team and we can take a project from inception right through to site. We also deal with some of the big architect practices such as Henry J Lyons and Wilson Architecture.”

John continued: “One of the most important things in our line of work is to have good suppliers of systems. Our main ones are Wicona, Schuco, AMS and Reyners and we are approved fabricators for those systems.

“We source our glass from Carey Glass International of Nenagh and the Pilkington Group as well as a local supplier, Precision Quality Glass.”

Having weathered the economic downturn storm, John and the 38 strong staff currently employed at Classic  Building Solutions and their shareholders are embracing the future in a confident frame of mind.

“Thing had gone very quiet since 2008 with the recession but there has been a big turnaround in the last 18 months and we have a lot of orders in the book up to next year.”

“At one stage, we had 150 people working for us, turning over €25m. Obviously those figures were subsequently reduced but we have built things back up a little bit over the last two years. By 2020, we’ll probably be back up to a situation where we have 40 working for us and turning over in the region of €10m. The goal is to be sustainable and we’re verry optimistic that is attainable.

“Thankfully, we have a lot of projects in the pipeline at the moment.”
